Just ordered components for a rechargeable battery setup for my Pocket Class A. If I punch two extra holes in the side of the tin, I'll be able to plug the micro USB cables in there. I am not positive if the green charge indicator lights glow only during charging, or also during use, but I may also drill some tiny holes in the tin next to the indicator lights on one cell, so that they will be visible from the outside.

I read an Amazon review of these batteries wherein the buyer stated that the actual capacity of the cells is closer to mAh. I'll still be satisfied with around 3 hours of listening time, if this is the case.

On the other hand, if the advertised capacity of mAh is true, then I could get over 5 hours of operation. They are advertised as reaching full charge in 1. My 1 Amp Apple charger should provide almost enough current for maximum speed charging. I calculate that if the cells are really mAh each, it should take 1. Not bad. Looks nice if you can leave it inside case. The LEDs probably only light when charging. I don't think 1A charger will be 2hrs for both. You have 5v to 8.

Probably closer to 3hrs. My EBL's take hrs with supplied wall charger. If you want to roll your own rechargeable batteries. Look for LiPo 3. Add dc to dc step up module and adjust it for Add USB 5v charger module and that would do it. Might not fit in Altoids tin anymore though - those batteries tend to be wide and flat. All available on eBay or Ali. Some recent work on the amp to make it the NHB no holds barred Uber version.

Larger input caps 10uF now bypassed with nF v film caps. Larger uF Nichicon AK's on output now bypassed with 2. Bass extension now measured to be Pics not showing up for me.

Luckily HF lets you edit posts forever, as far as I can tell. I love the NHB acronym. The problem is, it shows up fine on my browser so I don't have any indication it is not working. I think HF has max image size of pixels x or something like that. My image links are pointing to DIYA where they are typically x which is a standard size medium res image. I don't know anyone who uses pix wide a a standard.

Here are revised downsized images : Btw, this NHB Convertible desktop capable amp now belongs to member gikigill of HF - so I will not be having it with me much longer as it is shipping out tomorrow. So sad - one of the best sounding amps ever.

Congratulations to gikigill on his new amp! Finally got time to build my first one. It's configured bone stock. Worked first try. My first listen was using the headphone out jack from my laptop, into an old pair of Senn. HD 's. Sounded good, but not great. What I can say is without reservation is that this little hand warming wonder definitely scales with better source and 'phones, because the second configuration is sounding like a giant killer.

Very dynamic and resolving, and it's not even broken in yet. If this is how good it sounds stock, I can't wait to hear it with upgraded components. I'm going to build my second one stock also, but the two I have coming are going to get the VIP treatment. I'm planning on building one optimized for low-impedance cans, and the other for high-impedance. Outstanding job my friend.

Hi Funch, So glad you got it working - it's a snap to build isn't it? Oh wow, you paired it with reference level gear! I've been obsessing over the upgrade possibilities, scouring Mouser for alternate parts that may be suitable for hot-rodding this little amp. But I already love the sound exactly the way it is. Team Silmic here. I found a way around the mint tin limit on cap size. Yah, I know, we're adding more cost, but Comes in four colors to match your decor too.

Sorry, no free mints though. If it can power an LCD-2, it's pretty much perfect for everything. Joined Jul 21, Posts Likes You must log in or register to reply here. Users who are viewing this thread. Total: 1 members: 0, guests: 1.

XRK Audio NHB Pocket Amp Review

When it comes to playing guitar, everybody starts at home - even the greats. We put together this little guide to playing guitar at home! There are pros and cons of both; ultimately it depends on your preferred playing style. With electric guitar, you have the advantage of being able to practice quietly, as the instruments themselves make very little noise. Plug them into an amp with a headphone socket, or into a computer via an audio interface, and you can jam without disturbing anyone. Electric guitar is also more versatile, in that you can pretty much dial in any chosen tone — indie-pop to snarling classic rock. With acoustic guitar, you get a rich, full-bodied sound without any need for amplification. Amps, pedals and so on.

If you have been wishing for a pocket size guitar amp that is made out of an Altoids mint tin, then your wish has been answered and delivered with out a hitch. I interviewed the fairy and she narrated the following process to me. What she really does is; first she buys a tin of Altoids Mint and eats all the mint herself which explains her incredibly fresh breath , she then solders all the electronics, adds some jacks, a volume control, and a red LED, and then a little touch of a sweet guitar solo played by the fairy herself. Every piece is individually hand crafted by our fairy, and of course! This beauty is ready to be plugged in and played in any standard electric guitar, it also fitted with a standard 3.

"Ampoid" Review - Mint Tin Amp!

And now for something completely different. After running out of Hammond enclosures recently I started to look for other cases to hold pedals. A little background first. The Dallas Rangemaster was one of the first treble boosters, and was widely used in the late s and early s by guitarists such as Eric Clapton, Tony Iommi and Richie Blackmore. While the originals are rare and difficult to find, many reissues have been released over the years. In the spirit of the original amp-top unit, I decided to use an Altoids mint tin to build my own version of this classic circuit. Originally I thought it would be difficult to fit everything into the enclosure, but after measuring I found there was plenty of room for the switch, battery, jacks, pot, and circuit board. Because it is a positive ground pedal I would not be able to daisy chain it with the majority of my other pedals, so I omitted adding a power jack.

Update: Fully built and tested Altoids Piezo Preamps are available for sale in the shop here. People seem to like the concept but are less impressed with the balanced output and phantom power — which is fair enough given that the mixer is invariably on the stage and the cables are relatively short. Consequently I have produced a simpler version of the unit and as a result of ditching the op-amp reduced the power consumption to about 0. The battery is connected when a plug is inserted in the input socket.

I had seen a small "guitar amp" that fit in an Altoids tin and I decided I wanted to try to build one. What follows are some notes about that project. While being able to fit into an Altoids tin is neat, I decided not to limit myself like that. I wanted the circuit to be easy to modify and so I used a small project case with a mounted breadboard rather than an Altoids tin.
