Imported from USA. I really wanted to like this amp. I bought this amp so that I could move The Marantz into my office. When the amp arrived I connected it up, bi-wired to the Klipsch. So back to Amazon it went. Read more I was a bit apprehensive about buying this, as almost all the verified purchases have been made by people who are replacing equipment older than I am, some by as much as a decade.

But don't let the reviews scare you; it's actually a pretty cool amp for music with decent power and clear sound. It's mostly analogue and totally old school. The fascia is aluminum as advertised, but if you're thinking Macbook pro, you'll be disappointed. I haven't taken it apart, but from the feel of it, it's probably some kind of aluminum veneer with plastic backing.

The knobs are also too light and flimsy to be made of solid aluminum ingots. I got this mainly to listen to vinyl and want a receiver with a moving magnet phono input and decent current handling ability. It can drive 4 ohm speakers without destroying the amp, which is pretty impressive. There's actually a switch in the back for that with a 4 ohm label, so you know it's not just hype.

It's just 2 very powerful amps attached to a massive transformer that weighs like 15 lbs, and some filters. That's it. But just because it's old tech, that doesn't mean it's bad tech. It sounds smooth in an analogue, nostalgic kind of way, which is what vinyl is all about.

There's a mode where you can even bypass the filters and switches for even higher fidelity sound. I usually listen to indie rock and occasionally ragtime on vinyl and that's the mode I use. I paired it with the Elac Debut 6. I can say for vinyl lovers that the phono input sounds wonderful. So much so that I haven't even been I can only say positive things about it.

The amount of clean power that this operates at compared to a 5. So much so that I haven't even been using my separate phono stage Cambridge CP2. The DAC sounds incredible for it being integrated. The build is very solid. It weighs almost 30 pounds and the outside is very sturdy.

Another nice feature is that you can unplug the power cord from the unit. This is a nice feature that allows you to purchase a longer or shorter cord if necessary. The volume knob is analog. So when using the remote control, the volume knob actually moves. Neat feature that I didn't see anywhere on the spec sheet. I cant recommend this product enough. For many years I have owned two stereo audio systems. My 'secondary' one had, as its amplification equipment, an NAD receiver.

After over 30 years, it 'died' and, rather than trying to have it repaired, I decided to replace it with a Yamaha A-S integrated amplifier. I was and am immensely pleased with this amplifier. I have had some experience with Yamaha products. Prior to buying this one in , I had owned two Yamaha home theater amplification units, one of which I still own and use. I also own a Yamaha Clavinova.

So it was natural for me to buy another Yamaha product. In my 'main' audio system the amplification equipment was a Hafler DH preamplifier and a Hafler DH power amplifier, both of which I had assembled from kits in These have served well for over 36 years.

However some of the circuitry was starting to degrade: I could hear more and more 'hiss' through my loudspeakers a pair of Klipschorns and, especially, the balance was going off badly. I didn't wait - I ordered it immediately! Now don't get me wrong - this amplifier is well-worth its standard price. It's just that, being what they are, my finances necessitate caution in what I buy. And I wouldn't even consider buying such an expensive unit any place other than Amazon.

Plus, after all, the Haflers were still working so a 'good price' was a major consideration for me. I'll tell you why I was interested more in the ' than the ' Plus DACs are evolving all the time; a built-in one cannot be upgraded but external ones can be changed. Everything else on the ', including the sound specifications, is exactly the same. So I am glad that I purchased the ' rather than the ' Now how is the sound quality?

In a word, superb. Especially from LPs, the reproduced sound is full and rich, with no obvious attenuations or exaggerations in any frequency bands. I find the phono section in the amplifier to be fine. However, there is only one phono input and I have two turntables. Some reviewers have complained that it's noisy.

Unless these reviewers got a defective unit which should be exchanged, this is nonsense. I cannot hear ANY hum or noise through my Klipschorns, the most sensitive speakers on the market and if there is no hum or noise audible via those speakers, there will be none through any speaker!

I have this second turntable connected via the Line 1 input. There are many other connections on the back of this amplifier. I am using all of them with the exception of the second speaker set binding posts. I have even added a Bluetooth receiver via the optical input. I suppose I could go on and on but, as this review is already far too long, I shall just say that if you are in the market for a positively superb stereo integrated amplifier, at a reasonable price or even at an unreasonable price , you cannot buy anything better than this one.

Over the years I have heard many esoteric and ridiculously expensive amplifiers and I can tell you that none sound better than this one. Technically an amplifier should have no 'sound' of its own - but they all do! At least that statement is from my own experience and is my own opinion.

You and some others may differ of course. Thank you for reading my opinions and for considering them. Lawrence H Bulk Silver Out of stock. Add to Cart. Similar Products. Mania Price

Yamaha's handsome watt-per-channel R-S stereo receiver has a lot going for it. First, its clean good looks put most similarly priced receivers to shame. Every time I review a stereo receiver I remember how much easier they are to set up than any of today's AV receivers. Turn on the R-S, select the input and enjoy the tunes. There's a headphone jack on the front panel, and around back you'll find four pairs of RCA inputs, plus Bluetooth, but there are no phono or digital inputs.

Our editors independently research, test, and recommend the best products; you can learn more about our review process here. We may receive commissions on purchases made from our chosen links. The best two-channel stereo receivers deliver amazing sound across the audio spectrum thumping lows, crystal clear mids and highs and a bevy of inputs and outputs to let you get music in and out with minimal fuss. Our top pick exemplifies some of these qualities—the excellent AXR85 from Cambridge Audio delivers killer sound, and has a ton of different ways to pipe music through it from other devices as well as all the requisite ways to output said music on the other end.
