But luckily for him, racing is a family business. Just back from a ride on the Oklahoma training track, while his staff tends to the thoroughbreds, trainer Tom Morley eyes a horse who is acting a bit impatient. Tom has 18 horses here at Saratoga. Calling Long Island home, his horses are mostly based on the East Coast.

An ASPERA-funded 2-day workshop reviewing current and future studies and opportunities in multi-discplinary deep underground science. For decades astro-particle and particle physics experiments needing an ultra-low background environment have been operated deep underground where the rock overhead provides a shield against interference from cosmic rays.
The growth of astroparticle physics has resulted in small but growing number of deep underground science facilities in Europe and around the world. In recent years in has become clear the special environments provided by these facilities is of interest to other areas of science, beyond astro-particle physics to areas such as Earth and environmental sciences, geology, geophysics, climatology, biology and astrobiology.
This ASPERA workshop will showcase the synergies between underground astroparticle physics infrastructures and the opportunities they provide to address a wide range of multi-disciplinary science challenges. The event will bring together scientists , decision makers and industry to highlight and identify underground science synergies; and address the scientific, administrative and funding challenges faced by multi-disciplinary scientists when trying to collaborate together and with industry.

September 11th, He studied philosophy at the University of Warwick , earning his PhD in His thesis, The Question of Being: Heidegger and Beyond, was an attempt to reformulate the question of the meaning of Being after Heidegger, using some decidedly non-Heideggerian tools to provide a methodological framework for doing post-Heideggerian metaphysics. I came to philosophy somewhat by accident.

It was the first in what is projected to be a series of conversations on the theme of Fixing the Future , related to some of the problems raised by the accelerationist current. Mohammed Salemy was responsible for setting up the event. Video footage of the proceedings can be found here. She provided a serviceable overview of debate up to this point, the main issues involved, etc. Her own editorializing was fairly minimal. She remained evenhanded throughout the subsequent exchange. To briefly recapitulate her summary: Accelerationism poses a challenge to the prevailing negativity of the contemporary Left, the default logic of both its academic and activist wings. By extension, this critique also takes aim at the ideological tendency to simply propose the inverse of whatever deleterious effects are associated with capitalist development — a procedure that could well be called abstract negation.

The group was founded in with the goal of promoting civic betterment, philanthropic endeavors, and general culture. They maintain a clubhouse, sponsor a scholarship, and hold monthly meetings, which feature guest speakers. The club was established in by black women active in the community, including Della Mae Givens, wife of architect Paul Williams. The Wilfandel Club house was one of the few integrated public meeting places in Los Angeles during the s. The club house is still used today by the members of the Wilfandel Club for meetings, weddings and other functions.
Conference marks tercentenary of Thomas Wright, eighteenth-century polymath
A range of scholars from across the UK come together for a conference at the University of Bristol today to celebrate and reflect on the work of Thomas Wright, a fascinating eighteenth-century astronomer, mathematician and garden architect. Thomas Wright had a lifelong interest in theology, astronomy, natural history, philosophy and literature, and considerable skills in surveying, draughtsmanship and mathematical calculations. A polymathic perspective permeates his entire body of work, which includes his largest surviving landscape at Stoke Park near Bristol. If you wish to attend, please register here. Book The cosmic radiation was discovered by Hess in but its origin is still the subject of much controversy and considerable study. For several decades most workers in the cosmic ray field were interested in the Nuclear Physical aspect of the particle beam and many important dis coveries were made, notably the identification of the positron, the muon, the pion and the strange particles. More recently however, em phasis has changed to the Astrophysical aspect both with re8ard to the origin of the radiation and to its relation with the other radiation fields.

Communities are being blighted by "misery and harm" caused by drug dealers despite a major sting in north Wales, says a former police chief. Clive Wolfendale, who now leads a drugs charity, was speaking after a gang boss was jailed for 10 years last Friday. Aled Gray, 35, was the last among 27 people sentenced after North Wales Police targeted two gangs working in a multi-million pound "consortium". CPS Wales said the operation was a "big step" forward but the fight continued.
As usually PAF has invited three speakers that are asked to talk for five hours three days consecutively. This is a format that has shown equally challenging for the speaker and the audience, as it is both in- and outside of conventional seminar structure. Over the years Spring Meeting has been visited by a number of contemporary thinkers with a focus on speculative thinking, object oriented and materialist philosophy next to addressing Deleuze, Whitehead and in general aesthetics. The e. The situation at PAF is fairly simple. Can we all be, so to say on thin ice and try something out together?
