I would prefer the Walnut cabinets, but these came along at a great price I think so I grabbed them. I have questions What is the difference between the 's 's and 's?? I assume the "B" in B means Black finish? Why are some mids and tweeters angled in the cabinets, yet the ones I have are squared up in the cabinets Are mine better, worse of equal to the angled ones???
Also, I notice there are different tweeters in JBL 's Are my tweeters better, worse or equal to the other tweeters? How can I tell what year my speakers were produced??? Yours are the later version with the titanium tweeters in a utility cabinet. You can set them up with the tweeters inside or outside depending on how close together you have them to adjust the soundstage. There's always been a bit of confusion in the model designation. I have a pair of 's and 's, they are practically identical just the placement of the drivers between the 12's and 11's.
Yours like others stated are the later models with better tweets and materials I guess. If the tweet sounds a bit harsh just take it down a bit with the attenuators. As far the wood, just do like GD70 said, get some wood veneers for them which is what the 12's, 11's and 10's had. Either way enjoy them! Those are beautiful, wish I could find a pair in that condition.
I would take that tweeter any day of the week over the older paper one. Personally I think the black cabs are very nice looking and would leave them original :thmbsp:. GD70 , Jun 23, B doesn't mean black finish. It denotes a revision. The tweeter changes are just steps in evolution. JBL used that Tia for years. I've had a couple pair of those pass through my hands in the last 6 months or so. They're highly desirable. I would not change the finish if I were you. These sell for a premium over versions with a walnut finish. If you want a walnut finish just buy some A cabinets and swap your drivers over.
LB , Jun 23, Anything original is more desirable then something that is not. I don't believe Bs were ever made with a walnut finish. Well I lucked into a Walnut pair of 's for nearly nothing!!!!! LOG IN. Looking for a JBL speaker system for a second system to play mostly rock music.. There are lots of and speakers available. JBL 4312 Floorstanding Speakers
They are part of my Vintage system. I have wanted a pair of JBL speaker stands for these speakers for years. A few years ago Pete Vintage Pete gave me a couple CAD drawings of the speaker stands with dimensions and I intended to make the stands a long time ago, but it never happened until a couple of days ago. Once the weather cooperates here in north Florida I'll get my JBL A's out of my Holiday Rambler travel trailer and take a few photos of the speakers on the new stands. For now, here's a couple photos of the eight pieces and the assembled speaker stands. I am very pleased with the finished stands. Dan, The stands look fantastic. I'll be looking forward to seeing the end result under your JBL A speakers.

However much we might respect the neutrality and delicacy of our Electrostatics and BC1s, when it came to throwing a party there was only one winner and it rhymes with gerbil. The three-way driver line-up, chunky cast frames and that dazzling Omo-white Aquaplas inch bass driver cone are all about headroom and loudness, in an era when voice coil adhesives made 'loud' unusual in hi-fi speakers. Thirty years on the Quads need a rebuild, but I still use the BC1s regularly, marvelling at their unrivalled midband lucidity while taking great care to respect those ancient voice-coils. Does the Century L also have a place in our modern world?

After setting up the SEs, I selected components that would give an eclectic blend of finesse and muscular accuracy. To ensure that the JBLs were behaving up to potential, the Isoacoustic speaker isolation mounts did duty on Charisma speaker stands. Musical selection was from the Wyred Music server and Tidal streaming service. The in-room frequency response of the JBL measured remarkably flat, befitting its professional heritage, and delivered bass extension down into the mid 30s with gusto. Highs were clean and detailed, without being exaggerated. Overall tonal balance fell on the studio neutral side of the ledger, neither adding or subtracting warmth, but able to truthfully translate those points of character with sufficiently high resolving power to identify changes in ancillary equipment and signal quality.
