Thread starter Mattbedrock Start date Dec 27, Mattbedrock Gold Supporting Member. Messages 4, Messages 3, Your Super Reverb sounded best to me in the BF camp. The tweed Deluxe sounds great too. Messages 11, For Leads I liked the Bassman the best followed closely by the Tremolux.
The most unique amps are the Tweed Deluxe clone and Princeton. Those sounded alot different than the rest. The Bassman and Tremolux were also unique, the rest were closer in sound than I expected.
Big Fender amp fan, you have a very nice collection. After hearing your clips it really firms up my feeling that I need to a Fender Tweed in my collection to go along with my '69 Fender Bandmaster Reverb and '60 Fender Brown Super. Messages Interesting shootout. Thanks for doing this one. I agree with you on the Tremolux.
The rankings are close after that but the standouts to me, in order, are the Tweed Deluxe, Princeton and the Super. Thanks again for posting this. Tomo Member. Messages 16, Do you have any clips Love to hear those. Especially on Tremolux. Tone Meister Member. This was very well put together, thanks. I thought the Tremolux was gorgeous sounding, but hell, all of'em sounded great to me. The 5E3 clone was nice and thick on rhythm and lead. Not a bad tone in the bunch, really.
Great job! Tomo said:. Mattbedrock said:. Tomo - I'll get right on it. It's all setup, so it'll just take a minute.
Hi Matt, I really enjoyed your playing here. I love BF Fenders and if I set treble Thanks for doing that. I normally like more treble and less bass on Fenders. I also love vintage tubes. Tomo - Very kind words - you're being very generous. Here's another clip of the Tremolux: vol 4, Treble 6, Bass 4 on the vibrato channel.
I do have an ancient RCA I think in the v2 position. It's really old but has a better, smoother tone than my newer tubes in that amp. A little bright for my taste on the bridge pickup but I threw in a little neck pickup that really benefitted from the additional highs.
Sorry - playing's a little sloppy - one take with cold hands it's freezing here in FL. Keep those request's coming - it's too cold to go fishing! And tube amps warm up my studio! Cool post!!! I'll listen later when I have some time That's about how I set my Bandmaster Reverb, treble on 7, and bass on 4 or 3 if I can turn up the volume. Loving the Tremlux clip, its stock is rising after this clip.
Can you post a picture of that Fender Tweed Deluxe clone? Just curious how it looks, may have to build one. The Truck Guy Member. I do like the tremolux, and the super. I think you should throw a twin in there. Nice job Matt! Since I'm currently looking for one of these amps I listened carefully and came up with a list and short descriptor of each amp. I just picked what was my favorite sound based on the type of groove you laid down Tweed - nasty little grind and growl 2.
Super - cleanest and classiest 3. Bandmaster - very balanced 4. Tremolux - fullness with brightness 5. Bassman - bright with not as much fullness 6. Princeton - bright and midrangey 7. Pro - Round 8. Showman - midrangy 9. Tremolux - "Tomo request" - thin and grindy I'm sure if other grooves were done that the results would be different.
GTRJohnny Member. Nice job. I actually was digging the Princeton on first listen, just because I think you played it harder and more funky. I tend to do that with smaller amps -let loose more and control my attack on bigger amps. Love to hear some Strats! This is exactly what this forum should be full of. Good work and top post.
Wow, thanks for all the kind posts and the incredible 1, plays in 4 days of the soundclips! TGP'ers are voracious! Funky54 Member. That was a lot of work

Tweed Deluxe Speaker Shootout: Speakers Revealed!
In fact it was only when I came across the True North Tweed Drive that I got properly switches onto that particular brand of twang - and did some due diligence in the lead-up to its acquisition. With different overdrive types, some tend to be universal perennial classics - like Tube Screamers and Klons, while others wax and wane in popularity over the years. Some of these pedal builders have a couple of offerings in the category - direct and indirect in the case of Bearfoot FX, Catalinbread, Mad Professor and Menatone. Bearfoot has has at least a couple of pedals that cover this territory, the now seemingly discontinued Honey Bare, and this Fender all-rounder which purports to cover Tweed, Blonde and Brownface Fender styles, along with a dash of Plexi. You get 5 controls - Volume Drive Lower Mids Mode Treble - where the Mode dial is actually a 2-way switch which adjusts gain character - adding a touch more grit to the core tone. This is a wonderfully versatile pedal and I've not really used it as much as I should, but it still remains a key part of my own tone library.
Top 10 Best Modeling Amps
Fender Stratocaster Guitar Forum. Messages: 5, Anyway, aside from all that, the Eminence and Jensen P12R speakers are vastly different. The Jensen is also consistently described as being a relatively brighter speaker in most cases, which I was prepared for. This also made it sound less lively and a bit more sterile. There also seemed to be a fairly stiff Midrange that felt somewhat uncomfortable on the most part and was difficult to minimize without causing things to sound muffled. The Bass lost its punch as well, again I suspect due to the lower overall output of the speaker. So, all in all, the amp ended up sounding a bit neutered with the Jensen.

I'm considering a Marshall Studio Vintage, as my preferred sounds surround the somewhat shared territory of the Tweed Deluxe and a 4-hole Marshall, but with the modern conveniences!
7 Best 15-Watt Tube Amps (For Rock, Blues, Jazz)
In the course of selling and building amps I often get asked how my amps will compare to Fender Blues Junior. It is fair question these days. The Blues Junior has become such a common commodity that holds a place as a moderately priced amp that everyone has tried. A Junior sounds okay but if I could not build amps that sound better than a Blues Junior I would be doing something else. The Blues Junior is a good choice for someone trying to get their first tube amp but it not a professional's amp by any stretch. So why is that?
