Hi slutz, Hope all of you are healthy and have your 20 year supply of TP because, apparently, that's the most important thing to have during the apocalypse. Just got a really cool set up for tracking guitars and have a couple ribbon mics as a part of that. I know you need a windscreen for vocals and kick drums etc, but do I need one for a guitar cab considering the cab has the typical mesh grill across it?

I'm not running a plexi on Just enough power section to get some air moving, but want to make sure it's not flirting with disaster to not use a windscreen etc. Thanks and stay safe. I never have. I mean, can you put your hand in front of a guitar amp and feel it moving significant air? Doubt it. Don't use one for vocals either. Last edited by swafford; 1st April at PM..

I use pretty much only ribbons on gtr amps. Never used a pop filter, but I place the mic at least a foot from the speaker. I stepped in a gopher hole yesterday. Thanks for the feedback guys. My gut feeling was that, with a grill cloth between the mic and the speaker, that should be enough protection. I'm using lower wattage amps so I can get the tones I want without making the neighbor's furniture vibrate so I'll probably be just fine.

Just wanted to get a little confirmation before thinking I knew something I didn't. At least with my vocal skills, I don't think I'll use a ribbon mic without a pop filters for vocals anytime soon though.

Thanks guys. Depends on the ribbon mic. I had Fatheads where I removed all the stuff in the head basket, those always got a pop filter on amps. Top Mentioned Manufacturers. While USB mics are often cheap and easy to use, XLR microphones tend to emit less internal noise and feature replaceable parts. This dynamic microphone is a live performance industry standard, but it is also well-functioning as a vocal recording mic for both singers and podcasters. The frequency response is designed to highlight vocals and combat the proximity effect by de-emphasizing low notes. Therefore, this XLR mic is not ideal for recording instruments such as a bass guitar.

Now for the preamps. Universal Audio is one of the oldest, most established companies when it comes to analog gear. One preamp I owned in the api style that is fantastic for the money is the Black lion audio b12a. While many of us think of the lunchbox as a modern invention, production began back in Type: Module. Adapted from Saul Walker's innovative design, the API Mic Preamp is the heart of the API channel strip and one of the most sought-after preamps for the professional engineer, now adapted to the series "lunchbox" format pioneered by API. If you'd like to buy both, send me a message and I'll set up a new listing, arranging a better price for your purchase. By, Chris Becker. Over the years, API has put together a killer channel strip, starting with the c mic preamp. The VTSP can brighten up even the dullest of microphones and add warmth to any sound that passes through it.

Microphones are used in many applications such as telephones , hearing aids , public address systems for concert halls and public events, motion picture production, live and recorded audio engineering , sound recording , two-way radios , megaphones , radio and television broadcasting. They are also used in computers for recording voice, speech recognition , VoIP , and for non-acoustic purposes such as ultrasonic sensors or knock sensors. Several types of microphone are used today, which employ different methods to convert the air pressure variations of a sound wave to an electrical signal. The most common are the dynamic microphone , which uses a coil of wire suspended in a magnetic field; the condenser microphone , which uses the vibrating diaphragm as a capacitor plate; and the contact microphone , which uses a crystal of piezoelectric material. Microphones typically need to be connected to a preamplifier before the signal can be recorded or reproduced.

Some mics need a LOT of gain - and not all preamps are up to the challenge. With a sophisticated class-A design and specially-selected high-grade FETs, the DM1 has vastly lower output impedance and nearly half the noise of anything else on the market. Additionally, the gain it provides is always a consistent 28dB regardless of the connected load, thanks to its dedicated buffer amplifier. The V CLAMP adds another axis of vertical movement for even better fine-positioning ability, and keeps the V BEAT securely fastened to your drum rim while adding barely any bulk to the overall footprint.
