Berning amplifier works
I read the Devid Berning patent and I do not really get it. Yes, it does not use output transformer but it is not look like it is direct coupled amp. It looks like Berning approach uses is a pulse generators that cares the signal form plate. Is it the more elegant way then to have the simple transformer code between? How about filtering of the HF noise that usually generated by the switching amps? In our time there are many people who say that the D-class amps are great.

I had the ZH pointed out to me in this thread Contemporary tradition breaking amp schematics it looks like nothing I have seen before. From reading what he says about the amp it almost sounds like he has built a tube based class D amplifier of some kind.

Visually, this amplifier exudes a no-nonsense vibe that reflects its status as an instrument for reproducing music. Balanced and unbalanced inputs are provided, selected via a toggle. Two pairs of silver WBT binding posts are provided for loudspeaker connection. No user adjustment is required other than swapping the two tubes per chassis. When turning the amplifier on, an auto-bias sequence gradually ramps up the output-tube bias, extending tube life. Once the amp is fully turned on, the user can select one of three bias currents, with the lower settings reducing output power but extending tube life.
The design of the Berning ZH power amplifier represented a radical departure from that of other amplifiers. The ZH was the first amplifier using all-tube amplification to properly match the high-voltage, low-current operating parameters of vacuum tubes to the low-voltage, high-current drive requirements of dynamic loudspeakers without using audio-output transformers.
