Effective date : Circuits, such as a cascode amplifier or low noise amplifier, having terminals and a voltage-controlled and variable inductive load are disclosed. Any such circuit comprises an output terminal and a voltage-controlled and variable inductive loading network. The voltage-controlled and variable inductive loading network comprises a primary inductor having a first primary inductor terminal for coupling to a supply voltage, a second primary inductor terminal coupled to the output terminal, a secondary inductor sharing mutual inductance with the first inductor, and a variable resistance device having one terminal connected to a first secondary inductor terminal and another terminal connected to a second secondary inductor terminal, wherein the variable resistance device being dependant on mutual induction between the primary and secondary inductors provides loading at the output terminal.

Cascode amplifier is a two stage circuit consisting of a transconductance amplifier followed by a buffer amplifier. This circuit have a lot of advantages over the single stage amplifier like, better input output isolation, better gain, improved bandwidth, higher input impedance, higher output impedance, better stability, higher slew rate etc. The reason behind the increase in bandwidth is the reduction of Miller effect. Miller effect is actually the multiplication of the drain to source stray capacitance by the voltage gain. The drain to source stray capacitance always reduces the bandwidth and when it gets multiplied by the voltage gain the situation is made further worse. Mulitiplication of stray capacitance increases the effective input capacitance and as we know, for an amplifier, the increase in input capacitance increases the lower cut of frequency and that means reduced bandwidth. Miller effect can be reduced by adding a current buffer stage at the output of the amplifier or by adding a voltage buffer stage before the input.

The cascode amplifier majority moves in the preferred circuit layout that describes below shown in Figure all-audio.pro grounded emitter of the first transistor Q1.

Chapter 10 Multistage (Cascaded) Amplifiers – Electronic Circuit Analysis

Electrical Engineering Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for electronics and electrical engineering professionals, students, and enthusiasts. It only takes a minute to sign up. Connect and share knowledge within a single location that is structured and easy to search. In my recent studies, I have come across the concept of cascoded amplifier using Common Source and Common Gate Configuration. What exactly is the reason of cascoding?

Semiconductor Fundamentals (Part 4)

Many performance features of practical amplifiers may not be met with single-stage Amplifiers. Considering the various aspects of single-stage amplifiers, the following aspects of Multistage Cascaded Amplifier are discussed:. The gain of a single-stage Amplifier may not be adequate for certain applications and the input and output impedances also may not be of required magnitudes. Such limitations of a single-stage Amplifier necessitated the development of Cascaded or Multistage Amplifiers. In Multistage Amplifiers, multiple amplifiers are interconnected to obtain desired performance features for the total Amplifier. In this process, the output of stage amplifier 1 is connected to the input of stage amplifier 2, whose output voltage is applied to the following next third stage and so on, till the overall performance of the resulting amplifier meets the desired performance requirements. Such method of interconnecting more than one Amplifiers in stages is known as Cascading of Amplifiers. The resulting overall Amplifier is known as Multistage or Cascaded Amplifier.

Low-Frequency Response (BJT) Amplifier In the analysis of the voltage-divider BJT, it will simply be necessary to find the appropriate equivalent resistance.

Here we are on holidays and surprisingly I struggle to find any free time in which I can sit down in front of a tablet and write this blog entry. Life is good. The first one which sprang to mind was the folded cascode experiments which I conducted last year. This came around due to two main quests I was working on.

Single amplifier forming a section of the cascaded amplifier circuit.

A system which has a single transistor amplifier does not give adequate bandwidth otherwise gain and also they will not include the accurate impedance matching for input otherwise output. To overcome this problem here is a solution like by combining several amplification stages. When the product of gain-bandwidth is stable, then we have to exchange bandwidth intended for high-gain within a single-stage amplifier. The cascade amplifier theory is used for high gain as well as high bandwidth. This amplifier is the best solution. The problem in measuring the gain of the cascaded stage is the non-perfect coupling among two stages because of loading.
