Wren V5AP Airplay Speaker
The sound is outstanding, which can easily be considered room filling and a big room at that. Your music source connects to the device wirelessly and in my case I used the Airplay feature built into iOS devices. Android users have a model Play-Fi built for them and a Bluetooth version is in the works. The wireless version will stream up to feet, depending on your music source and the Wi-Fi router, which is great compared to the 30 feet that you get with Bluetooth.
After plugging in the included power supply, it takes just seconds to get the speaker cranked up. Wren made sure the sound was first class but also put the same amount of effort into the design.
The rectangular speaker is designed with curves on the ends and had a bamboo in my unit or real rosewood finish. It measures about byby-4 inches and with the finish it makes a nice addition to any family room.

But one new start-up that has caught our attention — Wren Sound Systems — seems to be gaining ground with its new wireless speaker system…a product we find unique and interesting. A few weeks back, we wrote about the collapse of start-up AudioXperts — a surprising turn of events considering that it seemingly had everything going for it in terms of qualified team, innovative products, and apparently strong financial backing. CEO Eli Harary told us that, after less than months on the market, their backer pulled the plug on any further investment and the company collapsed. One of our takeaways from that unfortunate event is the conclusion that start-ups are finding the current economic trends — and current industry trends — adding a tremendous amount of friction to their ability to move forward and get a toe-hold in the market. But newcomer Wren Sound Systems Wren seems to be bucking that trend.

Wren wanted to build a good and stylish speaker from traditional parts, so to speak, or at least old-school materials to use its own words. The result was the V5BT, although we'll leave it to prospective buyers to decide if Wren accomplished its goal properly. The Wren V5BT isn't cheap though. Wren might have decided to go for an old-school feel, but as it is often the case, this ended up turning it into a premium device. Which is to say, a product with more than the required share of design refinements and performance perks.

In fact, the whole Wren lineup comprises just two speakers — the V5 and the V3 — in several configurations. The V3US sounds and looks great, offering a classy and convenient way to spice up your listening room. Wren clearly favors function over form when it comes to packaging. The V3US emerges from a white box bearing little more than photos of the speaker and logos representing several supported wireless protocols. Half the rectangular V3US split diagonally is clad in espresso-hued wood, while the other half is covered in cream-colored mesh.
