Tone control circuits amplifier

There are many ways to tweak the tone or "voice" of a guitar tube amplifier. Amp designers and modders can alter the clean and overdrive tone by changing component values, adding components, removing components, adding gain stages or even adding complete circuits like negative feedback. This page also discusses how your amp's controls work which will help you get the most out of your guitar and amp. Knowing what a resonance control or cut control actually do to the guitar signal can make you a better player. You can tweak the voice early in the amp circuit for the greatest overall effect, especially on the overdrive tone, or you can tweak it late for minimal side effect. It's ideal to have early and late tone controls in an amplifier circuit to offer the most versatility.

The tone control was a scrapyard project… A few leftover parts from previous projects were sitting in the workshop so the idea was conceived of building something useful to add to the big KT88 amplifier featured in a previous entry. It was also my first attempt at an audio circuit on a PCB. There is still a practical application for a tone control, particularly with analog sources such as vinyl.

In this case, the tone control was designed to sit between the RIAA phono preamp and the linelevel integrated implifier. Designing the tone control presented the opportunity of designing a tube circuit on a printed circuit board. However, circuit boards allow an item to be designed once and then built multiple times. So there are definite advantages. In this case, an existing published circuit schematic was used, with some changes to make it more balanced. A power supply was designed — again using existing parts to hand, and a bypass capability was added into the design of the board.

The idea of placing all these electronics within view led to the replacement of the aluminium case top with clear acrylic, to allow easy viewing of the insides. Good question. The switch just connected the input and output together and disengaged the circuit, by way of a couple of signal relays. The tone control as shown on this page is unity gain. So if you put a 1v p-p signal into it, it will output the same level. It was not designed to swing the kinds of voltages you would need to drive a KT I would run your input signal straight into this circuit load the input with 47K or so and then run the output signal into the top of the volume potentiometer.

From there, take the signal into the rest of the amplifier. You could experiment with driving the KT88 straight from it, assuming your gain stage was before it, but you may need to use something better to drive the circuit with than a 12AX7 cathode follower if so — the K voltage is only about 18 volts. The values in the treble arm were changed to make the lift and cut amounts symmetrical on treble and bass. Running this circuit through LTSpice shows a symmetrical lift and cut, at the various setting positions of the two tone adjusters. If you have never used this facility before, click the help link on the left for detailed instructions. On amplifiers that only have two output tubes per channel , you must check the heater current and make sure you do not overload your power transformer. Every operating parameter is tunable thus it basically operates perfect. Johnson plate tuning capacitor, ceramic tube sockets, and several pre-bent Then I tried an extra resistor from g1 to cathode like the 4D32 schematic AJT posted. All the family works fine in this rig, if you neutralize the final RF amplifier. Simple Tone Control Circuits

tone control circuits amplifier

Tone control is a type of equalization used to make specific pitches or " frequencies " in an audio signal softer or louder. It allows a listener to adjust the tone of the sound produced by an audio system to their liking, for example to compensate for inadequate bass response of loudspeakers or earphones, tonal qualities of the room, or hearing impairment. A tone control circuit is an electronic circuit that consists of a network of filters which modify the signal before it is fed to speakers , headphones or recording devices by way of an amplifier. Tone controls are found on many sound systems: radios , portable music players , boomboxes , public address systems , and musical instrument amplifiers. Tone control allows listeners to adjust sound to their liking.

However, adding this circuit reduces the gain and quality of the amps sound. This circuit works well and sounds superb. Without this cathode follower circuit, the tone control addition would have reduced both gain and sound quality and become a negative factor for this amp design.

Audio tone control circuits are mainly used for 2 reasons. It may not possible to recollect the original signal at the speaker if the bandwidth is not limited. The second reason is to satisfy with the music. Tone controlling is nothing but controlling the frequency of the signal to be amplified by the audio power amplifier. Normal audio signal consists of mixed frequency. If you think about separating the frequencies in audio signal then Audio tone control circuit comes on to the picture.
