Fully Amplified
Here it will present six short plays written by six emerging writers, inspired by six songs, donated by six musicians. All performances will be fully captioned for deaf and hard of hearing audiences, making Six the first piece of theatre to use these technologies in the venue. Six was conceived by Stephen Lloyd, founder and artistic director of Amplified Theatre, an inclusive production company that focuses on merging live theatre with alternative music genres.

Amplify is a new teen dance production developed to explore and showcase themes of social justice, racial equity, and the challenges marginalized communities face. Teen performers have worked together with three industry professionals to create a thought-provoking, culturally relevant, and engaging arts experience through dance. What’s Known To Me Is Endless

Andy has worked in the arts nonprofit sector in many different roles for over 10 years. He transitioned from programming to arts administration and fundraising while living in New York City. Andy has worked in leadership positions at TADA! Caitlin grew up immersed in the arts, thanks to her music educator mother and live music-loving father. Born in Lincoln, Nebraska, her earliest days were spent at Kindermusik classes playing the xylophone, which translated to 12 years of piano lessons. Throughout childhood Caitlin participated in choirs, musicals, and dance tap being the hands down favorite.
First Stage Breaks Ground with ‘Amplify-BIPOC’
A look at the African diaspora, and how experiences of Black identity differ in Canada and the United States. African American baritone Kenneth Overton is joined by Canadian pianist Rich Coburn to speak to how their understanding of Black identity was challenged while working on both sides of the Canadian-US border. Canadian American, Michael Mohammed , will direct the show. Each evening will feature a lecture-recital followed by a talk-back panel with the artists and guest speakers, to give audience members a chance to further explore the themes discussed in each concert. Talk-back panels will be curated and hosted by Margaret Cormier. Audience Activation Points around the venue will be designed by Matthew Vaile , and will create a more interactive experience.
Whisky is a theater, music and performance project instigated one evening in , when Macarena Fuentes and Maria Mar Perez found themselves roaming the streets of Salta, Argentina, with a full flask and crashed a party. The overwhelming urge to change the song, led to the spontaneous creation of their DJ identities. Experimentation and nomadism characterize this duo, and over six years they have occupied diverse genres, cities and sectors. Like good film buffs, their DJ sets or mixes are a combination of their favourite movie excerpts and a selection of tracks that range from techno to dark wave, dance and electronica, mixed with ambient sounds and field recordings.
Curated by Director of New Play Development Abigail Katz, the Amplified Reading Series presents four bold new plays throughout the season with an expanded rehearsal process for more meaningful engagement with the material and the playwright. Linda Gross Theater West 20th Street. Min is a year-old girl living with her father and their dog in a small town. All she wants to do is hang out with her friends, get good enough grades, and go to the school dance. But when Min develops an unlikely connection with the new girl in town, she finds herself confronting the violence of adolescence and understanding the necessity of friendship. The Wind and the Breeze explores the politics of place, the unspoken expectations of friendship and what happens when we choose to stand our ground on shifting sands.
Amplify is in transition. Like any creative pursuit, sometimes you need to re-build, re-imagine and re-orient yourself towards new goals. And for Amplify, will be one of revisioning. Amplified is dedicated to plays written by Black writers and seeks to magnify their voices, experiences, and stories. Through these stories, we hope to challenge inherited and systemic narratives of the historical western theatrical canon ensuring that these vital voices reach our audiences and our communities. This series will be presented digitally - no in person performances will take place.
