Arrived in my mailbox in three working days. Physically, they're of course greater diameter than the 40's, they're also a bit thicker. This will probably prevent me from using them with the current helmet Scorpion EXO without modifications but the next helmet I use will likely have larger dedicated speaker pockets anyhoo prolly one of the Scorpion modulars.
The cord lengths are slightly different but not enough to matter. Straight plug instead of right angle. Side by side The sock is not meant to be removed from the stock 40s. Can be removed from the JBLs and they provide one spare set First, a non-Cardo comparison ie no firmware benefits, etc. Made a modest attempt at reducing variables. Since positioning in the helmet is so important did these tests in a quiet room and holding the speakers in the optimal position.
Did not use a helmet. Also, not very scientific but probably fine for relative comparisons, used a phone db meter to measure levels at medium and max volume with speakers positioned same distance from phone mic for each test. The JBLs sound better subjectively. They are only slightly louder at max volume. No but if you aren't using Cardo 40s to begin with this probably doesn't help you make a decision. Probably only relevant to someone using a Q solo with the 40s. This evening I'll install the firmware upgrade that is designed to work with the JBL speakers and do another test and report.

I need to measure my speaker pockets in my gt air also. The Bose QC works a treat! The Bose QC buds are indeed awesome. Mine are the prior model bought on a closeout special. Best money ever spent for commercial flights. And use them every day for video conferencing while wfh. ANC blocks out too much for my taste on a bike.
Don't like the proprietary battery or dongle of the Bose but at least it lasts a long time. I always hated ear buds with helmets. Always something else to mess with. And your ears hurt after a while.
