Cambridge p40 amplifier

Nothing if not ambitious, Cambridge Audio's Edge series first broke cover three years back as part of the company's 50th anniversary celebrations. It took its name from Gordon Edge, one of the company's founders and the brains behind its first product, the P40 amplifier. Designed to take on the best in high-end audio, these Edge separates also serve as 'halo' products for the company's lower-tier ranges. Of course, high-end as realised by the Cambridge Audio team, known for decades for its value-for-money products, was never going to mean 'impossibly priced'.

Cambridge Audio’s Evo is a great streaming amplifier for Hi-Fi setups.

The Edge series will be available in June and will consist of three units: Edge A, the integrated amplifier; Edge NQ, the preamplifier and network player; and Edge W, the power amplifier. Edge will be available in select authorized retailers in the US. With our 50th anniversary approaching, we saw an opportunity to push the boundaries of our abilities to create something truly unique, something truly inspirational. The results speak for themselves. Edge is sublime. Edge A , our integrated amplifier, offers incredibly detailed sound with the effortless power to match.

Its sound is wonderfully balanced with clarity audible with every note. Listening to Edge A feels like the band is playing right in front of you. Edge NQ offers new levels of versatility for a pre-amplifier and network player.

StreamMagic, the streaming module that powers NQ, has been improved, allowing Edge to play music from virtually any source. Edge W is the best power amplifier Cambridge Audio has ever made. With just 14 components in the signal path where other similar products may have 30 — 40 , Edge W delivers breath — taking, pure, unfiltered British sound with incredible power: nothing added, nothing taken away.

Cambridge Audio pushed engineering boundaries to keep the signal path short across the series. Only 14 components feature in the signal path of the Edge W power amplifier with capacitors removed altogether. Edge is a completely new design that has taken over three years for the dedicated, in-house engineering team to complete.

Well-resolved power bundle

And so it seems rather fitting that one of the British company's founders is the inspiration for this new high-end series, released specifically to celebrate its golden anniversary. In a marked change from Cambridge's more traditional affordable fare, the new Edge series is designed to bring all of the company's experience in 'Great British Sound' to produce its most accomplished system to date. Consequently, every product has been selected for its sonic merit through an exhausting set of blind auditions, rather than working towards a price, featureset or series of measurements. The result is a stunningly distinctive series with a simple, approachable design and friendly menus. Signal paths have been kept as short as possible, capacitors completely removed in the case of the Edge W power amp , Class XA amplification utilised to give the sound quality benefits of Class A but with greater efficiency, and opposing symmetry twin toroidal transformer arrangement that cancels out magnetic interference while offering impressive power levels. With just 14 components in the signal path, it's claimed to deliver pure, unfiltered British sound with incredible power. The Edge series will be available in the UK at selected Richer Sounds stores and you can find out more about it here.

Since the late s, the British brand Cambridge Audio has been committed to leaving no obstacle between the listener and the music. Its approach is simple: maintain a unique identity and offer systems that are resolutely musical. This radical choice for the time resulted in an extremely slim model whose excellent technical capabilities quickly made Cambridge Audio famous. In the 70s, the Cambridge Audio Classic One amplifier was created and implemented a multitude of new technologies, establishing itself as a revolution in amplifier design. With the growing popularity of CDs in the s, Cambridge realized the undeniable advantage of separating the CD player from the digital-to-analog converters. The operating principle of the device was to separate the DAC from the magnetic fields created by the transformer. The lower stage contained the DAC and the analog filters, while the upper stage housed the control and playback elements as well as the power supply.

New from Cambridge Audio: Evo, a super-integrated streaming amplifier platform that launches with two models in tow: the Evo with wpc of Hypex NCore amplification and the Evo 75 with half that amount. Both are rated into 8 Ohms. Either Evo will act as the central hub of a home hifi system. The Ethernet socket points to the internal network streamer. Both versions offer a 3. The cut and thrust? Just add loudspeakers, for which Cambridge will soon be introducing a matching set of Evo S bookshelf loudspeakers for anyone wishing to stay on brand and keep things compact. Cambridge Audio Edge Series launched

Available now locally to audiophiles is the Edge A Integrated amplifier. With a design pedigree that could be traced back to Professor Gordon Edge, the design team leader of Cambridge Audio some 40years ago that created the iconic P40 amplifier, the Edge Integrated Amplifier is said to be able to deliver in excess of watts RMS continuous power output across a nominal impedance of 8 ohms, doubling to watts when loaded with a 4ohmns nominal impedance. And its aesthetics? A pure exercise in how to achieve breathtaking beauty in sheer minimalism. Inspite of this the Edge A is packed to the gills with high performance features such as apposing Symmetry Twin Transformers to improve power performance delivery while cancelling out electromagnetic interference. The amplifier circuit itself is an improved Class AB design for improved performance and is wholly compatible with modern digital audio devices via Bluetooth.

Cambridge Audio celebrates 50th anniversary

Don the party hats, light the candles on the cake and raise a glass: Cambridge Audio is gracefully turning 50 this year! Professor Gordon Edge, the brains behind the very first produc:t the iconic P40 Integrated Amplifier, played a huge part in cementing the city of Cambridge as a hub for British technology and engineering. It was the first amplifier in the world to use a toroidal transformer, paving the way for its successors, the P50 and P, whilst also establishing our high standards and respected reputation.
