No warning signs, no panic. There was something in the air though; the atmosphere was a bit dim. The enthusiasm and splendor of the past year event was kind of lacking.
However, there were enough visitors to prove that the demand side had not completely withered. On the supply side, a few new entrepreneurs tried their wings, a few traditional exhibitors had opted out, Totem and Heco, for example, and some, like Audionord, scaled down in a big way.
Or not? Generally speaking, the Best in Show sound was found in those rooms where omnidirectional speakers dominated. From the previous year there was Oido Audio quasi-omnis, this time in stylish gray. Both speakers owe to Peter Snell, and I think it can be heard too. PS Audio favors clear-lined hardware. No soft whispering jazz in this room. Punk and heavy. Though not quite as hard cannoned as in the AN UK room. Well done though.
The OB3 stands for open back baffle. The speaker seemed to be at home with a variety of music, and the bass department was excellent.

Not only have their speakers made many of our customers happy through time, but we've actually had so close relations with QLN that we can say that we have left our mark on many of their models from the late 90s and until the company was sold in , partly through listening tests on prototypes. Also their newest The Signature 3, has been, among other things developed based on feedback from Tape Connection to the designer Mats Andersen, who was also the driving force behind the successful DLS brand. DLS and QLN are still far apart, as their latest speakers The Signature 3, has not been focused on best performance on a budget but rather the best performance without regards to price. The fact that the retail price has not been doubled or even tripled can be attributed to Mats Andersen being able to source the necessary components at a reasonable price without compromising on the goal of developing the best possible speaker. And that's wonderful! Swedish QLN started out as a speaker manufacturer back in and quickly expanded to North America and Asia the following year. The new The Signature 3 is very similar to the original Signature model visually, but besides the shape it's actually an entirely new speaker that has been changed from head to toe!

I was first exposed to the Qln Prestige Three loudspeaker at the Capital Audio Fest where it was sharing a room with the Innuos Statement music server and the Vinnie Rossie L2i SE integrated amplifier both of which I have reviewed quite favorably. Number one was that it was beautifully simple in its implementation—server, integrated amp with built in DAC, and speakers. Number two was that Qln chose to display its Prestige Three model, which suited the room both size-wise and in regards to frequency extension, so the system synergized with the room as opposed to fighting it. A brief peek into the history of Qln revealed that it was founded in and produced affordable, quality product, mostly in Europe. In it was sold.
