A couple of thoughts: 1. I would be very cautious about any continuous carrier testing at above watts DC input. Is your loading control adjusted properly? Generally, the proper operating conditions will be reached with a fairly heavy setting of the loading control and a lightly loaded amplifier will have excessive grid current and poor linearity.
For a dual Z amplifier at watts input, you should use around watts drive maximum to reach the rated watt input with proper operating conditions. I wouldn't try to drive the L4B to the current legal limit as you are operating in past its design limits and you are not gaining any significant increase in received signal strength; going from to watts output is less than 2 db and the typical s meter is 6 db per unit so the receiving operator wouldn't even be able to tell the difference.
If you increase the loading too far past the optimal point, efficiency will suffer. Generally this will help to prevent excessive grid current as the transmitter drive will be automatically reduced. You might also want to run the power supply on volts as soon as possible as the voltage regulation will be better and there will be less chance of flickering or dimming lights in the rest of your house.

Kenwood TSS in good condition. I bought the unit modified for AM use and in nonworking condition and I have since realigned and repaired for ham use. HV board was fried in unit but has been repaired. Still has AM mod installed inside and was not remove due to my technical inexperience. Full output on all ham bands.
