There is a great deal more to enjoy about the Pulsation amp, needless to say. It is capable of class-leading performance at the heart of an audiophile stereo system, but thanks to the LIPS Leema intelligent protocol system interface, it can also be the centre of a stunning home cinema or surround music system.
Examples include feeding an amplifier in another room for a simple multi-room system, or as a line level feed to a subwoofer. They can also be used for bi-amping, where a Pulse III is used to drive the tweeters in the loudspeakers and an additional amplifier is used to drive the woofers.
The higher the system resolution, the more easily the differences between cables can be discerned. Leema recommend the use of high quality bi-wire cables with your new amplifier to ensure optimum fidelity.
When powered on, the unit initialises then, if applicable, the previous input selection will be restored and the volume will fade up to a low level. The audio is then buffered by audiophile quality OP amplifiers in order to present the Burr Brown precision attenuators with a low impedance drive signal. Admirable bass which combines extension, tautness and clarity. Higher frequencies are highly detailed and revealing, but there's always a convincing sense of life to the sound. Sometimes the most trivial things can make the biggest impression. We were greatly taken with the power button on the Leema Pulse amplifier. It does the same as most — brings it out of standby — but it has just the right combination of travel, spring force and general feel and shows how a little thought can add to general pride of ownership in unexpected ways. There's a lot more to like about the Pulse amp, of course. The rest of the front panel, for starters, is a large brushed aluminium affair with a deeply engraved logo and lots of blue LEDs that indicate volume setting and selected input.

By PhilipL , December 5, in 2 Channel. What do people here think of the Leema Pulse 1 amplifier? I have seen a used one at a good price but it's too far away to audition and there don't seem to be any Leema dealers in Essex. I have a Nait 3 and love the sound with my Rega Ela speakers. But I am getting lazy and would like a remote control if only for volume.

Leema Acoustics has relaunched one of its best-loved amplifiers, the Pulse, for Led by its ex-BBC engineering team, the company has added new features, improved performance and flexibility, and introduced all-new casework. Now in its fourth generation, the new Pulse IV will form part of the newly re-launched Spectrum range and will make its international debut in pre-production form at High End, Munich, in May The phono input joins five additional line-level inputs, making the Pulse IV highly flexible and easy to integrate into existing systems with multiple components.
The Leema Pulse IV is an integrated amplifier. As the name suggests, it is not the first iteration of the Pulse either. It has been a fixture in the Leema range for almost as long as the company has been in business and it has been evolving throughout that time. Not all of those evolutions have been as consistent a step forward as others; the Pulse III managed to have an excellent spec but made some… interesting… styling decisions but, in microcosm, the amp has reflected the requirements of integrated amps at this price point and how that has changed. This puts it in a different category to devices like the Naim Nait XS3 and Rega Aethos , which are fine amps but need supporting source equipment.
The Pulse IV offers both Moving Magnet and Moving Coil compatibility for vinyl, so all turntables can be connected, regardless of type. A powerful watt design, the Pulse IV has sufficient capacity to drive all speaker types, including those with difficult loads. In addition to its generous output power, the Pulse IV also features a high-quality front-panel-mounted headphone amplifier for late-night or personal listening. For added flexibility, the Pulse IV also features two pairs of preamp outputs enabling connection to a range of devices, including power amps and subwoofers, plus a dedicated fixed-level record output adds further versatility for archiving music.
