BUY AT:. See more details, packaging, or compare. For his acclaimed follow-up to Man Push Cart, Ramin Bahrani once again turned his camera on a slice of New York City rarely seen on-screen: Willets Point, Queens, an industrial sliver of automotive-repair shops that remains perpetually at risk of being redeveloped off the map. A deeply human story of a fierce but fragile sibling bond being tested by hardscrabble reality, Chop Shop tempers its sobering authenticity with flights of lyricism and hope.

I have a love of great s films, ones that were award-worthy despite many a wasted selections nominations and winners alike from the Academy Awards. Although half the fun of Criterion is owning the packaging and the extra features, Hulu Plus has many movies that are part of the Collection. Classic, rare, foreign, and art house movies that are exquisite.

As long as there are movie buffs, they will be in business. I follow them on Twitter where they advertise these occasional sales directly from their website and they run out of stock before the sale is even over. So, yes, I think they're doing fine. Some of their older releases fetch hefty prices on eBay and Amazon Marketplace. I love the Criterion Collection! I usually do wait for sales Does anyone here post on the Criterion Forum? Poor Stanley Kramer that film's director got crucified.

I have no idea why this Swedish masterpiece isn't better known. It's ten times better than most overrated crap Bergman's ever made. They rarely get the original artwork and most, if not all of their original artwork sucks, like "Nashville". Half priced Criterion on Best Buy. You're welcome as to the alert, a friend posted it on Facebook and I was thrilled.

Absolutely worth watching. I have kept my eyes open for years looking for it. I always wondered why it wasn't at least on Blu Ray and that it would be a perfect candidate for a Criterion release. You are correct about the music rights, I was looking at the song list and it has a lot of big songs. Do any DL'er know how this works? Do the film producers have the rights for all formats or is this something that has to be re negotiated with each new release or format?

They would need to be re-negotiated with each new format release. Music rights are typically never negotiated in perpetuity, so they would expire after so many years and would need to be re-negotiated, or the material replaced with other music. But for titles produced prior to there being such a thing as home video, those rights would need to be negotiated after the fact.

Never gonna happen, R The artists won't sign away their right to continue to make money off of their compositions and neither will their families once the estate is involved. Still waiting for them to release the uncensored The Devils. They kept announcing it for awhile but keep pulling it back. This needs to be a Criterion priority. I don't know who, if anyone, is handling those titles now.

Perhaps they've gone into limbo, as have so many DVDs issued in the past and now out of print. And with blu-ray the newest format, it's unlikely those OOP DVDs will return to print, and those titles in limbo like Merchant-Ivory films are unlikely to see blu-ray releases without a distributor like Criterion to do the work. Yes indeed, we too use "cookies.

Otherwise, you'll just have to find some other site for your pointless bitchery needs. Become a contributor - post when you want with no ads! Criterion Collection Does anyone buy the titles anymore? Not all of them, but their restoration process is unsurpassed. Case in point, Rosemary's Baby. They are actually worth buying. Fanny and Alexandre was done very well by Criterion. I would buy again. Those titles keep me happy for hours. I didn't know there was such a sale, R5.

Do you know when it will be this year? Usually June r6. Harold and Maude is now out on Criterion Blu Ray. Agree -I really love the extra features and superb restoration. R5, That sale is going on right now. I received word from an e-mail by Criterion. Bill Hader on some of the Criterion Collection titles.

Oh R What do you think about Halloween release of the Uninvited? R36, thanks for the heads up about the half off sale at Best Buy! It would ruin Goodbar of they got rid of the original music soundtrack. The music made the film. Hulu Plus has pretty much most of the Criterion titles. It is the only reason I subscribe. Criterion should do all the Merchant-Ivory films. All rights reserved. It's easy to subscribe and unsubscribe when you want to.

The one I got looked like this:. And so on. According to my seventh-grade Xerox, all conflicts in literature fit into one of these categories. Man Versus Himself is the list's sole example of internal conflict, and literature is full of it. But think quickly: what's the last film you saw where the only conflict was internal?

I would love to see a collection of Jem Cohen's films released by Criterion, but I'm certainly not holding my breath. Try that It may come on Region 2 at some point. Anything Criterion is up for discussion here. I got into Criterion because I love Kubrick, and some of his less popular films are only available in the Criterion Collection for region A. You should get Dr. Strangelove from Criterion, and Spartacus but that one seems to have vanished from print lately, which is tragic.

Pierrot le fou makes its long-awaited return to The Criterion Collection, after the original Blu-ray went out of print. It's a couple-on-the-run love story that thumbs its nose at narrative and genre conventions. It's a potentially intimidating pop-art freakout full of puzzling elisions, surreal sidetracks, and Brechtian alienation that nonetheless alienates far fewer viewers than the more directly political films Godard was about to make. Belmondo is Ferdinand, a middle-class husband who is drowning in ennui. In one of the film's most referenced sequences, Ferdinand attends a cocktail party where the guests spout nothing but ad copy.

Eye, the international review of graphic design, is a quarterly printed magazine about graphic design and visual culture. These approaches are photography, illustration, graphic image-making, and the re-purposing of earlier visual approaches and found material. Such classifications can never be totally strict and aspects of more than one approach can often be found in a design. For visual consistency, all the covers shown here have been created since , when Criterion introduced a new identity by Paula Scher and Julia Hoffmann of Pentagram.
