Easily controlled and supported by both balanced and unbalanced inputs, the Crown XLi is incredibly adaptable and able to complete the setup of the more thrifty sound technicians, musicians, DJs, performers and clubs. In the XLi, Crown have managed to cram heaps of power and innovation into a single, high quality amplifier while somehow keeping the price low. This power amp is capable of 1, Watts per channel at 4 Ohms, 1, Watts per channel at 8 Ohms and an incredible 2, Watts via an 8 Ohm mono bridge. Thread starter Cableaddict Start date am. Cableaddict Member. I'm looking for suggestion for something compact, but very good sounding, JUST for frequencies above Hz. Must be no more than 2u, and lightweight. Must sound clear but sweet. I don't need any fancy onboard DSP, just good sound. It doesn't have to be a current model, in fact I'd love to pick up something a few years old and save a few bucks. More options. Yamaha Ps. It's probably not as light as you would like but you won't beat the sound quality.

The Crown pro amps are very nice, but they are built to be able to push a lot of watts and be very durable. The CTS, which was Class I and an evolution of the original Crown K2 amp, sounded good and has good bass strength, but had tube-like overtones in the sonic signature. In both cases, my Channel Island D Class D amps and Emotiva monoblocks were significant improvements in sound quality. Pro amps have their place is live audio and abusive environments, but I don't think they will ever take the place of true audiophile amplifiers. LOG IN. From what I've found so far, there are possbile downsides to using pro gear in an otherwise consumer setup, but in my case I think these are non-issues: -fan noise: not an issue for me since I will have an equipment closet.
