User Name Remember Me? How many of you are keeping older cars for their tape decks? I currently own a Toyota Camry wagon and a Audi A4 both of which are in very good condition and still look and drive like reasonably new vehicles. The Toyota has close to , miles on it and the Audi has about 85, While I am on a crusade to see how many miles I can squeeze out of the Toyota, I have been itching to get a newer Audi A4 or maybe one of the new Mazda 6 in the next year or two, although I think I will miss the option of playing cassettes in the car.

I know most newer cars have an aux input so if I desired I could hook a cassette deck, but it's not quite the same as having one in the dash. It looks stock, although I seriously doubt a '91 Camry wagon ever had an in-dash changer. Is it strange that I use the ability to play cassettes high on the list for reasons to keep these cars?

Sure I love driving the Audi and the fact that the Camry is a wagon, it's starting to become a rarity as most families have turned to minivans and SUV type vehicles. You can connect a walkman to that AUX input on your new radio and mount the unit on one of those phone holders,. Find all posts by NEMOaudio. No interest in digital if I must. I only tend to listen to the radio, the acoustics in a 4x4 vehicle isn't that great The Pioneer unit i have installed, has only played two CD's in 10 years since i have owned the vehicle There is an 'Aux' option, but i only recently managed to pick up a decent walkman DC6 and i wouldn't like that to be trashed when off roading Or stolen by some oik who mistook it for one of those digital landfill units I-Wad or whatever When and if truck nirvana comes around for my trusty Shogun, i would probably look for another I would buy the one with the tape deck!

Oh and some Danish and English stuff too She occassionally listens to cassettes in it but is really looking forward to getting a new Mazda CX 5, which I'll probably buy her in January.

The Jetta will be given to my daughter for college and she'll probably use the cassette to listen to her jazz cassettes.

Which I don't have of course. I also bought a factory cassette deck for my VW fox, which currently has a so-so after market CD deck in it because it didn't have anything in it when I bought the car and I got the CD deck for free.

I can't really use the tape deck I bought though sadly because I don't have it's code either. Lastly is my Honda Civic in which the previous owner put a horrible overly complicated pioneer CD deck with a remote.

I hate that thing, but haven't gotten around to finding a cassette deck for it. Originally Posted by ke4mcl. There are a few UK-specific mods such as side indicator repeaters While the cassette deck is not the only reason why we keep it, perhaps its a factor. The wife does all the driving and has about 30 cassettes in the car. The stock unit was replaced with a nice Pioneer circa , we bought the car in or I think. Still has under 90k miles on the clock, no rust, generally in great condition so we are in no hurry to replace it. I suppose if it fails an MOT or if the engine really dies then the car goes.

Not really - I am keeping my W because I like it, if I didn't like that car, I could just remove the tape deck and install it in a newer car. Lance Lawson. The tape deck went a long time ago. XM sat radio in it now. I replaced my tape deck in my current car, but that's not a big deal because I don't plan on driving this car forever. At some point I'd like something newer. Anyway the day I do get another car, I have a Pioneer deck waiting for it which does have cassette.

Hello nurse Would love one of these with a CD changer if it ever had such a thing. The current tape player in our car it so messed up it's wow and flutter heaven, to be honest I'm not too bothered about in car audio though I have the good stuff at home. It would be nice if when we replace the car it had a tape deck but I wouldn't put it on the essentials list. Originally Posted by Pentium Will be replaced with a Nakamichi TDz.

help on acoustat 11 speakers

I was surprised the other day to get a letter from a vintage audio enthusiast asking me the identity of the speaker featured in the Replacements' "Bastards of Young" video. I wasn't surprised that he asked. I was surprised that after the two-and-a-half decades I've spent as an audio journalist -- plus some time working at Spin magazine when the Replacements were still together -- I didn't know. The band's videos were more like anti-videos; they had little or nothing to do with the song, and little or nothing actually happened in the videos. The entire "Bastards of Young" video focuses the camera on one s-vintage speaker. Barely anything happens until the end, when the seated listener gets up and kicks in the speaker's woofer. The band used almost exactly the same video -- without the speaker destruction -- for "Left of the Dial" and "Hold My Life.

I'm going to show you how to run a car stereo using an old PC power supply.

If you're looking for the most realistic and engaging musical experiences, then you'll appreciate knowing that electrostatic loudspeakers inherently make the clearest sound. In all speakers, a diaphragm vibrates against the air to make sound. Excepting electrostatic diaphragms, however, all are unfortunately too massive or inadequately damped or unevenly stimulated to follow the recorded signal faithfully. This might not be always obvious from the sound, unless you've heard an electrostatic for comparison. The overall effect is as if the air is somehow making itself vibrate. Recorded sounds can't possibly be lost, and phantom sounds can't possibly be created. Then we add deep bass with seamlessly integrated, fast, impactful woofers, and wrap it all in attractive, sealed cabinets that produce no back wave.

Thanks for your measurements and math. I think the math will leave most with their head swimming. Perhaps you could add some details to the steps so that others, less math inclined, might work things out.
