Weren't you happy enough with the pictures of the Geithains and Pelonis that I sent you in a Private Message on July 23rd ? It's a little bit of a "ungkarsreir" here right now, so you'll have to make do with the pictures you got back then. Hjelmevold; are the Zaor-stands tough to adjust in height? Can it be done while leaving the monitors on top like with a screw-jack? I'm physically lazy during listening sessions, and would like to listen on a cough sometimes.. No, I would not advise you to try doing it yourself when the monitors are on top!

Better be two people for that job. It seems stable enough for now, but I'm seriously considering buying a third pair to strengthen front-back stability, so that I have one in each front corner, and one along the back.

If that makes any sense to you. I can't say how much better or worse that was with the Zaor Isostands. Ahh sorry.. Forgot about those! Its all good.. This completely solves any "blocking" problems you might have to your main speakers If my wife asks I want a pair for Christmas!!

Wow, they are really cool. They look more expensively than they are. Please do! Hope they work out for you! They are cool indeed! It is pretty steep price for a pair of stands by any standards but nevertheless an engineers dream Indeed they are. I wouldn't be as categorical because the SCM50 sounds quite a bit more natural in the mid-range.

The big difference lies in the transient response which I feel is kind of smeared in the SCM I think it might have to do with the small size, positioning of the mid-range and tweeter and the cross-over filters.

Comparing the transient response side to side with the SCM50, it's very audible. Also, it feels slightly "acid" sounding, especially at higher volumes, and the same exact impression I remembered from the 25s showed up on the 50s. We all have our own preferences and when you feel that an ATC speaker lack depth and 3dness, I would dare say your taste differ from most of us that worked with ATC speakers.

Same goes with the "acid" sound at loud volume. I find the ATC SCM50 to sound spectacular at all sound levels and would my control room and wallet be larger, I would buy them in a split second. Not trying to be a know-all, just sharing some perspective on ATC speakers, because they deserve it.

ATC speakers are special in many ways and it takes time to learn their sound. I hope you get to hear them next to each other sometime. I guess ATC agrees as well, since they just started upgrading their line with their new in-house design, so I am really eager to hear how it sounds The new tweeter is indeed very impressive and a huge step forward the perfect representation of a sound field. The Quested V are great monitors to mix on, when properly set up and at least two meters away they delivers a full range sound that's very impressive.

IMHO just about the right amount of low-end punch, mid-range clarity and transients, and it's easy to check the mix with reference tracks and instantly hear what needs to be fixed. I took the time to check the polar pattern of the mid-range and tweeter, and both have a pretty broad spread.

Your rather large table most likely reflected back quite a bit of mid-range and treble creating a comb filtering effect. Maybe you should try a smaller Quested model along with a subwoofer, that way you can control the low-end more easily and get the extra muscles that your damped room need. Like most of you I've thought about and experimented with a lot with different speakers and speaker filtering.

Even with a great sounding and expensive pair of speakers the influence of the room acoustics and speaker positioning have a large impact on the overall sound. Small adjustments that felt good. Speakers usually sound more "natural" without filtering, but when properly done it makes them a better mixing tool - which in the end is more important.

It's going to be interesting how I feel about the sound on Monday. I also own a Focal Solo6 Be, and, sad to say but, it's always off. Would be sweet to have this chance you're having to compare all of them in your own room. You don't like Dynaudio studio monitors either from what you said in another post so I'm not surprised. I thank all of you who were helpful with providing your experience with the different monitors.

With that being said I found the Focal Twins in my room to provide the detailed information for the highs, mids, and lows that allow me to obtain great mixes that sound great on many sources. This is the purpose of the monitors we purchase.

If I am obtaining the results that my clients and I are happy with, I don't have the need or desire to spend more money on higher end monitors. Granted monitors are just one part of the chain. Also my understanding how to interpret what I hear from the monitors and what to apply or remove is also a big part of the process as well. I think this is quite often overlooked as some tend to put more value on the equipment and not the engineer.

For playback purposes and mastering, adding one of the Focal subs can be a nice benefit as well. My understanding how to interpret what I hear from the monitors and what to apply or remove is also a big part of the process as well. For playback purposes and mastering, adding one of the Focal subs with the Twins or Solos can be a nice benefit as well.

I have no attachment to these but I hear everything perfect on them. This Focal style tweeter actually made by Focal is also in the Wilson Audio , if you think they sound bad you have bad hearing. I agree with you percent. If your mixes translate well on many sources is what it's all about. The importance of Skills as an engineer in obtaining great mixes is part of the end result as well. Their experience with Eq, reverb, compression, and balance far surpasses just buying expensive gear.

Otherwise I might have to go with the K's because of their smaller bottom size 37x40cm. Or maybe asking TowerSonic doing some costum topplate of a safer 40x Sorry for being offtopic and asking questions regarding my personal needs.

I realize I better open my first own 'thread', but I'v never done that haha.. I'll keep it short. What the topic is about? Comparing high-end monitors. Just remembering. This opinion may fit in some thread about "The importance of Skills as an engineer in obtaining great mixes". The SGS1 goes for close to 3k, with int. Euros that is. Really wondering if the SGS1 chassis upgrade is worth it. Has anybody experienced both?

And also back and forth! No use really for up and down. They are sending me the Basis 13 sub for sorting out my "headroom" concerns and they said I could keep the until they have finished the for my test in january..

I think that is pretty extraordinary and I will take a moment to salute this kind of service.. Hey Audiovision. That's awesome they are sending the sub and letting you keep the s! I wish they would send you the RL as well According to the specs and size, they are not full range like others in this test, but I wonder how they would hold up compared to the more expensive 3 way monitors that you have tested. For example in comparison to the s, do they have a similar excellent imaging without blurring?

Are they still incredibly sensitive for over compression? Do they remain musical sounding? Given the non-cardioid and 2 way and design, the price point for the is actually not mind blowing for some people like the s. As you said, the price point for high end is steep, and I wonder if these can sneak into the true high end category at a lower price point by sacrificing some bass extension and maybe some mid clarity. Oops, this post just fell into the "Can you spend more of your personal time and money to try this monitor too?

Hey mate! If the are anything close to the I would not hesitate to include them in the label of high-end. The amazes me more and more everyday I use it. Going back to conventional speaker designs seems almost impossible at this point.

By bandit pilot , July 4, in Ebay Links. Unbelievable that he didn't even bother to brush the cobwebs off the binding posts before taking the photos! Ask him to knock the price of a tin of Pledge off. Shame the drive units look really battered. All the person needed to do was use a duster to get rid of the cobwebs. Pulled dust caps aren't really an issue, except cosmetic, and the mint looking rear drivers look identical to the fronts.
