Technics su 9070 preamplifier for tv

If more than one source is bad, ie tuner, CD, tape, etc , proceed to step 1 below. If the problem is with one source only: Reverse the positions of the plugs coming from the defective source component where they enter the preamp or receiver. Make sure you turn the volume down all the way first. If the problem changes channels, the external component or cables are bad.

David, aka Grumpy, needs our help. Great news. David is home! It was quite the ordeal to get him home and into the house, but it is done. Thank you to everyone for their support. Now a long road ahead to get him back on his feet and functioning normally. I have started a GoFundMe to help with the medical bills. Please help, if you can. Log in or Sign up. Obviously, any impressions are subjective. The true test is how it sounds to me, but I can't test em all out remotely before buying.

And if I get an older unit, happy to recap it. I want to treat myself to a new to me used pre amplifier for Xmas. It will sit in the living room, and probably alternate between the phono system, and the main system. It will mainly see cds from an old Sony es changer which I quite like and fm from a nakamichi tuner.

It will be used for tv, and I am not averse to using a separate dac, or just running the analog tv out to it. I don't watch a lot of tv. Speakers in the mains system are refreshed b and o ms I don't need real high output voltage. I like tone controls, but right now they are off. Current pre amp is a nad which I recapped, and it sounds quite good.

Better than the Denon pra I have, though that may benefit from a similar cap treatment. I just want to try something different because it's fun. Remote control would be nice, but not a must. I listen to a lot of rock, a lot of jazz, a lot of classical, and some hip hop. Lots of reggae.

And when the wife ain't around I like it loud. When the kids are in bed, I like it quiet. So an all around athlete is a must. Got a little Dr. John on at moderate volume right now. A couple that have caught my eye, and are in the target price range, are parasound p5, apt holman.

I like the old school knob look. I had an old marantz I should have kept, but right now the nad is king of the hill chez moi. Whatchu got? Edit: I think my amp is 33k impedance. Last edited: Dec 10, SummitP , Dec 10, Messages: Location: NoVA. It has all the required inputs, two tape loops, a processor loop defeatable , the most tastefully contoured tone controls I've ever heard also defeatable , a superb MM phono preamp, and three sets of outputs including a one that bypasses all the tone controls and filters.

It was a Stereophile recommended component, and their review observed that the best choices had been made for the components it used from pots to resistors to caps to op-amps.

Even the case was designed well to avoid noise from neighboring electric fields. Walt Jung designed it and Victor Campos kept the premium components in production—legendary names Jung is the acknowledged master of op-amp optimization. They can be had in perfect working order well within your budget.

I have one of those, too. The Apt Holman is also legendary, from an earlier era and with more discrete components. They are harder to find in really good condition because they are older, at least at your price. The Adcom GFP is even more highly revered than the , and provides a passive option. And Kenwood Basic preamps get good notices. I have a C1 the cheaper one on an Adcom amp and it does quite well.

The C2 had more features and gets better reviews, which means it must be very good. The Onkyo Integra P gets good reviews, but my P has been difficult to keep in a state of good repair. Too many relays in mine. Good luck. Rdenney , Dec 10, I'll look into those two adcom models more. Hadn't really considered adcom too much. The holman does look great, and seems to receive a lot of praise.

I think I am losing interest in the rotel. I have an offer to trade another piece of gear for another nad I'm tempted to take it, as I really like the one I have, and I have a place I could use it, I am short a pre amp as it is right now, need one for the garage so I might grab it. But still would be looking for another model to play with. SummitP , Dec 11, Messages: 5, Location: Athens, Greece.

There can be hundreds of suggestions, and it comes down to what you can find, especially for used ones. I can suggest two units that fit your budget. Technics SU - it has one of the best MC pre-preamp sections - if that is relevant to you and excellent sound. A bit industrial looking with rack mount flaps and handles. Doesn't come up often but it usually flies under the radar. The accompanying BX-3MkII is also a great power amplifier that sounds great and has plenty of power to drive even the most difficult speakers with a great dynamic range.

Its only weak point is the relays that may have oxidized and may need replacement. SaSi , Dec 11, Messages: 13, Location: RIP I'd run that NAD 'til the wheels fell off, though if you can find an NAD pre-tuner with working remote, that would make a very nice replacement. As for the Holman Apt, imo its outstanding feature was the phono section. I wasn't spinning vinyl anymore when I bought one the best of three the seller offered and found it meh for my use; resold it very quickly.

It is difficult to find a good preamp on a budget; the is one of the better-sounding for the ask, imo. Stepping it up to a Monitor Series or is nice, though long-term reliability has always been a concern with NAD preamps, ime. So if your is issue-free, I'd be slow to turn her loose. Messages: I have a Nakamichi CA-5, which I'm quite happy with.

The only other one I've had was a Mapletree. So why am I posting? Who knows. Mitch Wright , Dec 11, Messages: 15, Location: S. Fl also known as hell. I think a Carver C would look awesome with your current gear. Don't show up a lot, their owners seldom part with them. The C-6 is the same unit but the color is different?

Awesome preamp. Carver C Carver C Grenadeslio , Dec 11, I always pick up nakamichi gear when I see a deal. The ca-5 is on the radar. I have a sr-4a that gets hours of daily use in the basement office. Love it. I have a nak st-7 tuner as well that sounds nice. I had a meeting I could not bail on, and as soon as the meeting was over they were already gone.
