Seven-year-old Molly Wright hosts youngest ever Ted Talk about child development

Molly Wright, a year two pupil from Queensland, Australia, stood in front of an audience of hundreds to give her speech on how every child can thrive by the age of five. The talk, which has been streamed hundreds of thousands of times within hours of going live, saw Molly joined on stage by one-year-old Ari and his dad, Amarjot, to help illustrate her big ideas about brain science. To ensure healthy development, parents should follow five key tips; connecting, talking, playing, a healthy home and community, Molly says. She adds that this teaches children some of the most important life skills including making friends, taking tests, getting jobs and starting families of their own. Molly says the research shows when parents are distracted by digital devices it reduces their ability to form a connection with their child. Children who grow up without these vital connections will go on to struggle in later life. The talk, which was produced in partnership with the Minderoo Foundation and supported by UNICEF, will be used as an educational tool for parents and caregivers around the world.
