CoD Outbreak event: Can you play the new Zombies mode for free?
Now that wish has come true, with a special zombie-filled event called Outbreak. Players of Warzone got to experience a special Outbreak event in their usual stomping ground of Verdansk, while players of Black Ops — Cold War owners got to experience a far bigger Outbreak game mode.
But what exactly do you need to know before jumping in, and can you play Outbreak for free? You can expect guns, guts and opportunities for glory. Activision tells us there are five main mission types that you could come up against while playing Outbreak.
Take a look at the Season Two Gameplay Trailer below. Warzone is free and Black Ops — Cold War is a full-price game, so you might be wondering whether you need to pay for Outbreak. The answer to that question is a slightly convoluted one: the Outbreak content in Warzone was always free, but the Outbreak content in Black Ops — Cold War was free for a week before it went behind a paywall.
As you might have noticed, that end date is now in the past. The free access was fun while it lasted, but it was always meant to end on 4th March. Outbreak launched into the world on 25th February , with players being able to jump into the action from 10am PT.
Although the game seemed to encounter some day-one problems with reports of the servers going down, those issues now seem to be resolved. Activision has confirmed that the Warzone Outbreak Challenge event will wrap up its run on 11th March at 6pm GMT, when a big Call of Duty update will drop into the world. Rumour has it that there could be nukes going off in Verdansk and some major map changes, but only time will tell if those rumours are true. Whenever new content drops, Call of Duty fans always go on the hunt for Easter eggs, and a fun one was already been found in the Outbreak event.
It involves a Dragon Relic which will look very familiar to longterm fans of CoD and its zombie events. If you pay to activate the machine, a ring of fire will appear around your character, and your new dragon friend will eat any of the zombies you defeat within that ring of fire.

Now that the entire map has been affected, it seems certain areas where the zombies first arrived on Verdansk have become contaminated with nuclear radiation. If players enter these zones they start to take damage that will eventually kill them. Instead, at least in team-based modes, players return to life as a zombie themselves.
Call of Duty: Warzone Season 2 Event Called Out by Players as Zombies Spread to Hospital
Zombies are "spreading" across Verdansk ahead of the end of Call of Duty: Warzone Season 2 , which is expected to go out with a map-destroying, nuclear event. Up until this week, zombies were contained to Shipyard. Now, they've moved to Hospital. That said, while on paper zombies slowly spreading across the map sounds great, the actual event isn't realizing this potential. For one, players have been pointing out that the spread is moving incredibly slowly, which is true. The Outbreak event has been going on for a few weeks at this point, yet the spread is still at five percent complete. Meanwhile, Zombies aren't spreading across the map as much as migrating from place to place and they also need to be activated. When this event began players imagined that Verdansk would eventually be overrun with zombies to the point the game would be unplayable, and thus the nuke would be deployed out of necessity. However, it's looking like the build-up to the event won't be this epic.

The Haunting Returns
The Zombie Outbreak is spreading across Verdansk again, this time heading to the Superstore in Warzone. According to leakers, the Superstore is next to be infected , spurring questions as to how long it could be until Warzone's inevitable Nuke Event blows Verdansk sky-high. Activision have, once more, sent out some teasers to Warzone leakers. This time, it's a canvas bag and another note. The bag is clearly from the Superstore - it has the bloody logo on it! So, does that mean we better get our shopping done soon?
Warzone Zombies Outbreak Event: Content, Release Date, Rewards and More
In a new post outlining the season ahead, Treyarch and Raven Software describe the Duga Outbreak as a "massive" region set in the Ural Mountains, "packed with new documents, audio logs, radio transmissions, and artifacts. Players will have some new gear to take into the latest Outbreak, starting with the Toxic Growth field upgrade. This throws down an AoE field of aetherium crystals which slows and deals damage to anything in range. You'll find two new vehicles out in the field as well: the aptly named Fast Attack Vehicle which I've just been informed is a real thing and a more subtly named cargo truck. The former comes with a minigun and the latter can fit the whole squad, so both ought to come in handy in different situations. The Duga Ural Mountains will also see new events.

On board, a horde of the undead clamoured to escape. Call Of Duty: Warzone Season 6 approached and it promised a zombie invasion; one which I'd been pretty excited about. Then the tanker beached and we got a new location, Shipwreck! And the zombies stayed within its confines, hmmm.
Warzone Zombies: Outbreak Spreading to Superstore
Warzone is slowly being infected by the undead, leading up to a potential new mode or map. When the Vodianoy cargo ship crashed onto the shores of Verdansk two weeks ago, it was pretty clear that some of the zombies onboard were going to get loose. Zombies can be triggered at the prison the same way as at the Vodianoy shipwreck, by activating a machine to start a zombie-killing event. Killing a specific number of zombies will grant access to a special loot chest with items like high-tier weapons and a gas mask. But this spread of the undead is being heavily teased by Warzone developers Raven Software and the Call of Duty blog , which makes it easy to assume something big is about to hit Verdansk.
