Nov 1, Later on, I've decided to buy a sub. That does look pretty sharp. March The most powerful amplifier in the AX range offers a massive watts per channel, a dedicated subwoofer speaker output for improving bass and two sets of speaker outputs.

Thread starter leeuk Start date Apr 8, Tags cambridge audio compact speakers home cinema minx min 22 surround sound. I was just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on some compact speakers for a 5. I'm looking for speakers around the size of the Cambridge Audio Minx Min 22 speakers.
On that note, those are the speakers that I'm looking to get, unless there are some good alternatives. The centre speaker however will be behind an acoustically transparent screen, and have plenty of room to breath, so that could be different from the other four speakers. I know the obvious answer to my question is "It depends At least it'll give me a point of research to begin with.
I know that's probably chump-change to some of the imax-rivalling setups on here, but it's a start eh. But again, they need to be around the size of the Minx Min 22 speakers. A teeny bit bigger is fine, but if they've approaching bookshelf-size it rules them out. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Sloppy Bob Distinguished Member. QAcousticss Qi - Every review of these is glowing, I have them myself, very impressed with them.
Monitor Audio MASS - This has recently been replaced with a newer model and a few have mentioned it's not as good as the older one. You may be able to grab a bargain on the older ones. QAcoustics Qi - Probably too large but better than both the above. You'd need an Atmos compatible 7 channel AVR. KEF Txxx - Multiple ranges of flat speakers. Larger than the others but only a few mm thick. Gasp Distinguished Member.
Are in-wall speakers out of question? From left Spirit 2 and Oberon at middle, Spirit 6 center at right which is also low depth model. Other colours available aswell. Also spotted this which may be of interest. Thanks for both of your replies, I really appreciate it. There's some great suggestions there, I've just been researching them.
The Q Acoustics Qi speakers look like they're widely applauded like you say, that's a tempting option for sure. The Monitor Audio Mass look great too. Do you know how either of these stack up to the Cambridge Audio Minx range? The in-wall speakers I'll probably rule out, they look amazing but I'd prefer speakers that can be mounted on swivel brackets.
The reason being is because I have a " projector screen, and sometimes move the sofa back or forward depending on what I'm watching. For instance, for Because of the narrow 3m room width, a constant-height screen which I'd love isn't an option, so it's my way of 'hacking' the situation.
I'm going to wall-mount the speakers on swivel mounts about 4m from the screen, and then swivel them on-the-fly towards the couch. I should have probably mentioned this originally sorry.
And also, because I don't need thin speakers on the front LCR soundstage, I feel I might be paying for something I don't need on that front.
As in, a lot of the cost is probably on the design element of manufacturing great sound into such a tight space. On that note, I might be missing a trick here, because maybe I need to be looking at the front soundstage and rear speakers as separate entities? The projector screen is 80cm away from the back wall, so there's a good amount of room for the front speakers the centre is behind the acoustically-transparent screen, and the front LR speakers are beside the screen, behind acoustically-transaprent black fabric.
The only restriction is that there's only about 20cm gap between the edge of the screen and the wall on either side for the width of the front LR speakers. But, maybe there's a certain front LCR setup which would incorporate LR speakers with a width less than 20cm, and would pair up with some shallow speakers at the rear?
Maybe that's still the best philosophy, I'm not sure, but if either of you have any further suggestions that might be better suited I'd really appreciate it. But if not, both of your suggestions so far have been amazing. I'm still researching all of the different speaker suggestions, so I'll also post further as I chew through them more, cheers!
I use a pair of Minx Min12's as Atmos speakers mounted on the ceiling and ma very happy with them. The QAcoustics ones already have a mount built in that acts as a table stand or swivels as a wall mount.
Click to expand Thanks for both of your continued help and advice, greatly appreciated. I'll upgrade the AV receiver and subwoofer later on with a refreshed budget And yes, great heads-up about going for a 5.
The room is about 3m wide and 8m long, so about 24m2 total area. It's a bit of a weird size room for sure. I can't see many UK suppliers for them. I definitely hear what you're saying about it being a shame that I have a reasonable budget for speakers, but I'm looking at satellites.
That's what's made me have a rethink about the front LCR soundstage, to lean towards having larger ones there instead I was originally just thinking about small sats at the front in order to tonally match the rear satellites. What I've found extremely difficult in the past is to actually find out the audio quality of speakers from reviews online. The reason being is because a lot of review scores are scored taking into account certain factors.
So, it makes it impossible to simply compare the quality of different speakers, regardless of other factors. They're made-up figures obviously, but it'd make it so that the scores didn't have other factors 'baked in' to them.
I guess what I'm getting at is: how good really are lifestyle speakers like the Minx Min 22 and Q Acoustics i range? So with so many people saying that the Qi lifestyle speakers are fantastic, what would be their bookshelf equivalent? It's just so that I can quantify it in some way, and weigh up whether to try and get larger speakers for the front LR, and how much of an audio-quality upgrade it'd be.
On that note, I've been looking at the Q Acoustics Qi range that was previously mentioned thanks again for that , and think that I could get away with the i bookshelf speakers for the front LR speakers, since they're only 15cm wide and 25cm deep again, I've got about a 20cm gap between the edge of the screen and the wall on either side, with about 80cm depth behind. But, the i speakers have a better audio quality I'm assuming, and I'm guessing that the LRi are a bit more expensive because they're lifestyle speakers and hence, a lot of the cost is because they need to be small?
If the i have better audio quality than the LRi speakers, and I chose to go for a pair of them for my front LR speakers together with the Q Acoustics Ci centre speaker, what would be a good choice for the rear speakers please? I wouldn't be able to use the i speakers at the rear unfortunately, because of the depth. Would they pair up tonally with a pair of LRi speakers at the rear?
Thanks again for the continued help on this, much appreciated! Last edited: Apr 11, XTZ operates in Sweden and Germany to my knowledge. HifiPilot is only one in UK selling them. The members who has heard them have liked those, more than some other big name brands. XTZ is more known of the Cinema serie speakers and subwoofers.
Shame about the 20cm width. XTZ Spirit Series 5. I also had small flat with very short listening distance and surround speakers went behind me higher up, CA Minx Min 10s. You were looking Min 22s which are little bit larger but overall quite similar. What is nice with the Minxes is the BMR drivers which gives you nice wide sound for fist sized speakers, but when compared to bookshelf speakers they will sound "thin" still.
But there is still such a big difference when you look the cabinet and drivers, overall size compared to bookshelf models.
Just overall the scale, weight in sound, depth, soundstage. The screen should have been little bit wider covering the whole wall, that way no silly 20cm restrictions. I am trying to guess is there any way out that restriction. Can you post a picture? Thanks for your reply. Yes, I definitely appreciate what you're saying in regards to reviews being positive across for the board for one reason or another.
