It seems there's never a dull moment in Gibson's legal team, and it's now emerged that the company is involved in two different disputes. One concerning Satellite Amps and the other regarding the headstock design of Collings electric guitars.

Until now. Because myself and a few others have brought it back to life, and introduced it to a new audience that never even knew the model existed. I wanted to give everyone a heads up. There is no immediate rush, but things will come to a head in the next few weeks. I hope you are all well. Historic hardware: Epiphone Coronet. One such instrument is the Epiphone Coronet.

The Epiphone Coronet was first introduced in the s, which clearly established first use of the trademark. More recently, Gibson has been continuously manufacturing and providing the Epiphone Coronet for a limited number of Artists since This establishes historic trademark rights and continuous use since The recent comments posted from the Satellite owner Adam Grimm confirms they Satellite knowingly took the name and concept from Epiphone.

Brands have a right to defend themselves against this type of blatant brand misrepresentation practice, hence Gibson actions. Gibson must protect itself from this and other similar opportunistic tactics, despite the potential distractions being created.

Our pick of the best guitars to suit all budgets. Based on heightened demand from guitarists and dealers, the Epiphone Coronet has been, and will continue to be, a key guitar in the Epiphone Originals Collection. The industry has recognized these, and other gestures, as true acts of goodwill and good intention.

The second dispute over trademark involves Gibson's opposition to Collings Guitars' attempt to file a trademark for its headstock design last year. Gibson cites three of its own active trademarks at the beginning of the dispute; the Dove Wing design, plus the Epiphone headstock and Epiphone headstock designs. Gibson goes on to outline two grounds for the opposition. These latest disputes follow the cease and desist letter Gibson sent to Kiesel Guitars earlier this year over its Ultra V and California Single models.

Satellite Amplifiers gives up as Gibson takes back the Coronet name

Satellite Amplifiers produces some pretty sweet sounding rigs. But amps can be kind of expensive, and they tend to take up a lot of space when compared with, say, a stompbox. Fortunately, the company has introduced the Eradicator, a tube-based preamp in pedal form. It looks like a cross between an industrial power supply and a steel doorstop. Of course, to do such a thing would be a shame, because the Eradicator is better suited to produce excellent distortion and ear-charming tone. Oh, and this thing is loud. That means that although the Eradicator requires only nine volts of power sorry, no batteries allowed here , the rectifying tube produces volts of direct current.

The fight between David and Goliath has finally come to a close. Following a legal battle with Gibson over the use of the design, Satellite Amplifiers has given up its trademark over the Coronet electric guitar. This time the giant has won the battle, and it eventually came down to who had the deepest pockets. It was probably always going to end this way, as Gibson has an army of lawyers and Satellite Amplifiers was always the plucky underdog in this argument, without the money to carry on fighting the battle. As Gibson owns the Epiphone brand, and has done so for a very long time, it held the rights to the name and design of this guitar. So rightfully, it was a little annoyed at this claim to its property. Gibson, who acquired Epiphone in , has on occasion re-released versions of the model over the years. The latest re-release was announced last month and so, it makes perfect sense that the guitar giant would want to protect the design. Therefore, Satellite Amplifiers has ceased building its versions of the Coronet guitar with immediate effect. It had been officially producing its version since 13 February , when it had registered a trademark for the Coronet.

Satellite Amps alleges legal action by Gibson over Coronet guitar design

Posted By: Stuart Sweet September 22, If you have a TV antenna, cell booster, satellite dish, Wi-Fi, and home theater, you might also have a whole rack full of amplifiers of one sort or another. Right… and also not right. Amplifiers are designed for different purposes. Some provide extremely low noise to help super-weak signals that have traveled tens of thousands of miles, while some make a reasonably strong signal extremely strong so it can make a speaker work.
