I understand I may a need a preamp or headphone amp but how would I set this up? Or, is there a way to do this without a headphone amp? Using Grado 60s. The D50s is only a DAC. Unlike the DX line, it does not have an integrated headphone amp. If not, then you would need to either get a separate headphone amp or replace the Fosi with one that provides that feature.

Topping MX3 is a nice small box packed with many functions. Specs say it can output 20W per channel so you can connect a wide range of passive speakers to it. It also has an integrated DAC chip with all kinds of digital inputs. You can also use analog inputs on the back to do so and use this device only as an amplifier.
In my opinion, the best bang for buck all in one desktop audio device. Tiny footprint, more inputs than you'll know what to do with, clean DAC, Bluetooth connectivity and it'll power both your headphones and a pair of passive speakers.
