As you might guess from the name, the new E07K is an update to FiiO s very popular E7 combo unit, with a number of substantial improvements. When a FiiO E07K or E17 not included is plugged into the dock on the E09K, the USB input on the back of the E09K becomes active, and the combination becomes a formidable digital-to-analog converter, suitable for streaming hi-res files from a computer. While we have seen sample picture of it outer beauty, I am sure those of who have an interest in entry class portable amp will find this user manual well worth.

I did a research on which studio mixing headphones to buy for my RME Baby, since my old cans are simply not on par with my new converters, plus the impedance dumping factor is too low.. I am most inclining towards buying the Austrian AKG Q, Quincy Jones edition, mostly due to their reputation of being balanced and true to the sound put into them I am no basshead, you know The dumping ratio is only , while - according to some - it should be anywhere near the factor.
Again, I have not much experience with impedance issues, that's why I am rather asking prior to buying the cans themselves. From what I found out on the internet, with inadequately chosen headphone impedance, the following unpleasant things might occur: - even the most balanced phones ever made might get uneven frequency responses some claim a 30 Ohm amp driving their phones adds as much as 24db to the 30KHz frequency!
Please advise on how to proceed to pair RME baby with Qs so that the impedance matches perfectly. Here are the solution to the problem that come to my mind: 1. Buy a headphone amp that accepts line input signals, mirrors them to a corresponding line outputs, plus amplifies the signal for the Q phones with 8Ohm output impedance - since this impedance level seems to be right for Q I checked some recommended options, ran into Fiio amps , but these seem to be using the digital source from the computer as their input - I already have RME converters and dont want to burden my Mac's CPU with another converter just for headphones.
Same insight plea as in point one. Buy another headphone. With Pros, the impedance is matched to perfection - Ohms would get me just the dumping factor. Isn't this too high? Build a DIY headphone attenuator. Again, no experience with these little buddies on my side.
If anyone has any insights here, please let me know. Buy a headphone attenuator. No clue where and which would be suitable. Same as above. Thanks guys for every insight. As I said, I am no expert on this and want to make sure I am doing the right thing before I buy. Have a good one, m. It has the output impedance of less than 10 Ohm for headphones, which should suit the 62 Ohm of the Qs perfectly.
It also seem to have the mirrored line outputs pre , and also some boosted ones post. I plan on connecting my speakers to the mirrored pre outputs so that the RME output signal is kept intact.
Anyone has any experience with this particular Fiio model? Is this the right device to solve my problem? Thanks for your suggestion. First, let me say I have just bought the RME. Mine is a home recording studio, tweaked to be flexible enough to turn into a nice portable live rig. Second, you are comparing apples with oranges. Well, of course Prism sounds better! I have no intention - and budget - to go to the top high end right now.
Third, this is not answering the question. The question was about impedance compatibility. I have the Babyface. I plan on buying the Q Since the q are low impedance cans 62Ohm and since the Babyface headphone out is mid-to-high impedance 30Ohm , the performance of the headphones is downgraded when plugged directly into the headphone out of the interface. The question was how to solve this impedance mismatch, and whether the particular FIIO phone amp model above can be the right solution for it.
Thanx Quote:. My two cents. I can only speak from personal experience. I find that the converter is like an EQ filter. When I compare my RME Fireface against my PrismSound Orpheus converter, one is bright and transparent Orpheus and one is dark, has high frequency noise and is non-transparent Fireface.
It matters little what headphones I use - having the FF in the signal chain on mix scope means some degree of translation issues that you cannot escape. The FF does something really bad to the signal, it is like a signal killer, I cannot explain it in any other way. I think it is its steady clock that is not so steady. That being said, it is possible that the Babyface has better performance but I doubt it.
If I were you I would seriously consider a converter upgrade first of all. A converter shootout is something I really recommend. Hi, thanks for the tip. It is great to hear first-hand experience with this combo, t. This implies to me, at least from the first look at the design of the two, that the actual amp used in Fiio E09IR should be of about the same quality as in the E17, if not better. In any case, I was also thinking about buying the same device you have for portability reasons, especially now, that I got the first hand experience from you.
Do you use this in parallel with your main ADDA interface? Does it "consume" your computer's CPU in a noticeable way? Originally Posted by hypersync. Slightly more forward mids, so not as neutral sounding as the O2, but still very close, as I read in the reviews, but otherwise sonically almost identical with O2. The downside with the C5 is that it has integrated DA converters and costs twice as much Also there is the cost factor, C5 costs twice as much as the O2 alone They have the combo: the O2 box with the extra converter box - but that costs 3 times more than the O2 alone.
Way out of my budget I have been told I need to wait 3 weeks till the German store restocks the O2 standalone amp. They all, however, seem to have the C5 in stock.
So maybe the higher price would be justified by the multi-use purpose of this little box in my case. Still, though, the slightly uneven frequency response of the C5 compared to the profoundly neutral one of the O2, makes me lean towards the O2 amp Not the absolute top quality, but quite close to it I have also found the Toneboosters Isone plugin - TB Isone - for compensating for a quality treated listening room when mixing on headphones.
I guess I might give it a try Any insights on O2 vs. C5, or the Toneboosters plugin, maybe? Anyone here using these?? Thanks for the piece of advice. Two questions here: 1. Don't you think s are a bit better for mixing? RME babyface has a 30 Ohm impedance headphone output. That's damping factor.
Why do you think this will not matter? That was why I recommended a converter shootout. I never said that you should by an expensive Orpheus. But I can understand that you are not so keen on doing an upgrade since you just purchased the Babyface, something I did not know when I wrote it. Regarding the impedance issue, just go with a set of the Grado Labs SR60i, then you don't have to think of that.
But I dont think a set under Ohm will be much of an issue anyway Thanks, man, I will keep this in mind when choosing my cans I have not heard the so I cannot say for sure, but when I normalize their frequency response they seem much too bass weak.
Based on experience with both amps and headphones, I have only found issues with headphones having too high ohms - weakness in polarity strength.
