Mini strat? Thread starter sesop Start date Nov 11, Messages 4. Hi, My 5 year old wants to learn electric. Not to be a jerk, but I'm not looking for "get him an acoustic first" or "start with piano. My son is average size for a 5-year old. I've read a lot about the mini strat but a lot of the people who suggest it, though well intentioned, are more vouching for Squier than conveying actual experience with a child who played one. I'd rather have something my kid can actually play than something that was better made but he can't feasibly hold.
For anyone who's been in this boat - what did you do? How did it work out? At the moment I'm leaning toward Loog but I don't want to make a mistake. Messages I'd say get a electric so they keep their interest. At 5, a Mini-strat is a perfect place to start.
You can find them cheap "used" too. The loog is interesting to me My small frame kid still can't play a mini strat at 9 yrs. WrapAround Member. My vote goes to Mini Strat because it's a standard 6 string guitar. Think of it this way. Small size violins have all 4 strings, not 2.
