I think this gave a more spacious sound, but I would guess a comprise in accuracy. I personally am not a big fan of a speaker that requires a good amount of eq out of the box. Though I am sure you will find many that disagree.

I believe each individual driver was tuned to a specific frequency range and not fullrange. Having smaller drivers than a conventional woofer they provided nice tight bass. If I remember right they had unlimited power handling. As with much of audio it's up to the user as to if they enjoy the sound from such a unique design. I have an old Bose Lifestyle 25 MK II System hard wired in to our walls and the lifestyle head unit has finally died after a good 10 years of service. I am thinking of getting a Sonos system but wondered if my wall mounted cube speakers can be powered via the Sonos in built amp? Pulling out the bose cabelling means redecorating which I don't want to do!!
