Russian GS35B tube
Others will probably poo poo this idea but I have found through experience, over many years, that a V Megger is usually able to tell you if a tube is gassy and needs gettering. I have a plastic tub with a blower bolted onto the side. I mount an appropriate filament transformer inside the tub and mount a plastic plate with the appropriate socket for the tube that I'm gettering over a large hole in the base of the tub. I place the lid on the tub and invert it so the socket is on the top.
After that, I retest with the Megger and if it is all clear, I put the tube into service. I have done many tubes this way for myself and many other people and have never had a mishap after the 1kV Megger test shows the all clear.
I ran the amp up to watts last night all seemed okay. I should get his plans and build one. The one difference between this tube and the old one is the "newer" tube needs more drive than the old one. The GS35b should have getter material on the filament and 30 hours of full filament voltage should absorb any amount of gas that could be absorbed if in fact there was any.
Non glass type tubes are generally sealed much better than glass tubes so a good tube would tend to have little or no gas anyway. You could after 30 hours run a hi pot test on that tube and check to see how the vacuum is. If a tube shows considerable leakage at or below its operating anode voltage it will likely be problematic.
If you can have the tube hi pot it will quickly let you know what is going on with it. Does this seem like enough time? I've read a few articles and most recommend about 24 hours with and without gradually increasing the filament voltage. I went with the straight 12V and a cooling fan. Obviously I am a little "gunshy" after having my old tube arc over and taking out the power to the circuit board.

GS-35b HF Power Amplifier

I was finish in December I like to show you here the steps from this project. I got the tube from cheap eBay. Nobody liked to buy this tube because the cooler was a little bit deformed. I repaired the cooler and clean the tube. I collect the parts for this linear over one year on flee-markets.
