Sounded very good in that position. Later, after I learned that I needed to lift them up on stands and get them away from the front wall, they sounded terrible. Back into the old positions they went. The original Advent had plenty of bass as I recall. I think some of Advent's brain trust left over time. The "New Advent" is from the late s, the other, original Advents were from about a decade earlier. I also had the original AR 3 speakers, my first "serious" speakers. I recall that the Advents did similar things, no doubt for similar reasons.

None of these speakers sound as good as modern designs but they were good enough to make me fall in love with this hobby and listen to a lot of music.

My current system is much better but those old speakers got much more play because I had way more free time. I expected these Advent speakers to measure much worse than they did.

It was just there for a little extra protection in transit. It's only secured by Velcro. A couple of comments about the crossover. It consists of a. The original Advent had a shunt coil on the tweeter 2nd order electrical and around a 1. So there is more overlap on the "New" Advent.

I frankly was quite surprised when I listened for the first time. I owned the original large Advent and never found it bright.

Its overall signature was a fairly balanced sound with a veiled midrange. The bass extension was very deep for its time and price. Only the AR3 gave it competition in that department. The first Advent got some push back for being a little subdued in the highs. Henry Kloss made some adjustments in the tweeter to increase its sensitivity, and that apparently was not a good thing.

This "New" version was introduced in the early '70's and sold in the bajillions. I can only speculate that the brightness that hit Amir and me in the ears was less of an issue with LP's of the era, or a lot of people just liked that sound.

It's certainly not for me. However, I didn't find the bass all that depressed, and I'm pretty sure Amir and I just have different tastes in bass voicing. Advent Speakers... Need something decent to power them

I have been using original Large Advent speakers purchased new in I have repaired the surrounds to listen to mostly classical and organ music. Every few years I get interested in speakers, look around and conclude that the Advents still sound pretty good in comparison. For a while I was thinking that my ideal replacement would be an RF-7 if I could find the room. I have been able to listen to the Forte III and a smaller Paradigm, but not in the same room Paradigm 75F in a small, very well prepared room, Forte on the open store floor, driven by different amplifier. The Forte III did not sound as good as I had expected in comparison, but given what I have read, that is most likely the difference in set up. I am listening in a 13x18 foot room, half of which is wide open to a second floor and the rest of the house, and all of which has a very high cathedral ceiling. The speakers are driven by an Anthem MRX receiver, and we often listen at low to medium volume.

Stereophonic sound or, more commonly, stereo , is a method of sound reproduction that recreates a multi-directional, 3-dimensional audible perspective. This is usually achieved by using two or more independent audio channels through a configuration of two or more loudspeakers or stereo headphones in such a way as to create the impression of sound heard from various directions, as in natural hearing. Thus the term "stereophonic" applies to so-called " quadraphonic " and " surround-sound " systems as well as the more common two-channel, two-speaker systems. Stereo sound has been in common use since the s in entertainment media such as broadcast radio, TV, recorded music, internet, computer audio, video cameras , and cinema. Stereo sound systems can be divided into two forms: the first is "true" or "natural" stereo in which a live sound is captured, with any natural reverberation or ambience present, by an array of microphones. The signal is then reproduced over multiple loudspeakers to recreate, as closely as possible, the live sound. Secondly "artificial" or "pan-pot" stereo, in which a single-channel mono sound is reproduced over multiple loudspeakers. By varying the relative amplitude of the signal sent to each speaker an artificial direction relative to the listener can be suggested. The control which is used to vary this relative amplitude of the signal is known as a "pan-pot" panoramic potentiometer. By combining multiple "pan-potted" mono signals together, a complete, yet entirely artificial, sound field can be created.

The Baby Advent is the first speaker bearing the Advent name we have tested since the company's acquisition by Jensen. We were pleased to find that the qualities for which Advent speakers have been noted in the past are present in full measure. As its name suggests, the Baby Advent is a small and lightweight speaker. The woofer's "deep" magnet, long voice coil, and highly compliant suspension give it a bass response and power-handling ability beyond what might be expected of such a small driver. The tweeter's magnetic gap is filled with Ferrofluid, which provides damping and improved heat transfer for operation at high power levels.
