This position is important because of:. The most important reason that lead me to apply and accept this honourable and voluntary position for the year , was to make a strong case for women entrepreneurs. Women who have their own income enjoy a stronger position. Running a company is also a viable option for marginalized women, women from shelter homes, refugees, teen mums, and for example, prisoners. Entrepreneurship is not just about starting a new business, but also about starting a new life; it is empowerment in the form of greater self-confidence, self-esteem, and social inclusion. This platform makes it possible to make connections worldwide with people who share the same goals as me. The UN makes it possible to establish these networks. The other side of the coin is that the size of the organization makes it hard to understand what is being done by whom, which inevitably leads to inefficiency. The future looks very cloudy with extreme challenges.

United Nations Seventieth Anniversary: the Women’s Representative
Seventy years ago, on October 24, , the United Nations Charter came into force. This anniversary presents a suitable occasion to consider how well the United Nations have lived up to the lofty ideals expressed at its founding, how it has adapted to a changing world, and to what degree this organization has been an effective force for a more peaceful, just, sustainable, and democratic world. In this study, James A. Paul, the Executive Director of the Global Policy Forum from its founding in until , charts the evolving nature of the United Nations. As a major figure in the UN NGO community, who has served on numerous boards and committees and written countless articles, reviews, policy papers, and books on international relations and global politics, Paul brings decades of experience as an advocate and observer of the UN to this task.
1006th Plenary Meeting of the Permanent Council
Arabic Chinese French Russian Spanish. Geneva 6 December - On 10 December, we mark the 70th anniversary of that extraordinary document, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Arguably even more so, as over the passing decades, it has passed from being an aspirational treatise into a set of standards that has permeated virtually every area of international law. It has withstood the tests of the passing years, and the advent of dramatic new technologies and social, political and economic developments that its drafters could not have foreseen. The Universal Declaration gives us the principles we need to govern artificial intelligence and the digital world. It lays out a framework of responses that can be used to counter the effects of climate change on people, if not on the planet.

On 20th April , the International Court of Justice celebrated its seventieth anniversary with a solemn commemorative sitting at the Peace Palace, The Hague. King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands attended the official ceremony. The occasion presented a timely opportunity to acknowledge the role of the Court and recognise its capacity for achieving "Sustainable Development Goal Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions". The Charter of the United Nations and the Statute of the International Court of Justice, which forms an integral part of the Charter, were signed in San Francisco on 26 June and came into force on 24 October
Guided by the principles, embodied in the Charter of the United Nations, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as well as in other relevant international instruments in the field of human rights that affirm the right to life, liberty and security of person,. Reaffirming the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which, in particular, proclaimed that everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food,. Being aware that the Great Famine of in Ukraine Holodomor took millions of innocent lives,. Being convinced that the tragedy of the Holodomor should be a reminder for present and future generations to unconditionally respect human rights, including the right to life in order to prevent the repetition of such tragedies,.
President, Mr. Secretary-general, Distinguished representatives, dear friends,. That extraordinary moment was celebrated as a historical milestone, and today, at a time of gathering threats to peace and security, the Charter remains the cornerstone of a multilateral system that strives to maintain international peace and security, foster friendly ties among nations, and solve international problems through cooperation while encouraging respect for human rights and fundamental liberties for all. France deeply identifies with these goals, which have enabled the UN to make enormous progress — progress that is not always given due credit. And I want to solemnly reaffirm the importance France attaches to the achievement of these goals.
