Texas42 Posts: One of the most iconic truly full range speakers ever made. These are the original Carver Amazing Platinum Loudspeakers. These are basically New Old Stock in that they have been in storage for most of their life. The ribbons are pristine as well as the cabinets which are a beautiful high gloss black. There are rarely available for sale due to their rarity and size.

His room is less than ideal for what is a fairly large speaker, though his Krell FPB is more than capable of driving their low impedance and low sensitivity load. These are all over the board. The model numbers reflect a progressive evolution from MKI up to MKIV and obviously one would expect the later editions to sound the best and perhaps be in better cosmetic condition.

The problem is that one of the ribbons is torn and the woofers need to get new surrounds. Anyone have any experience on a DIY repair? The ribbon and its tensioning was the whole key to the sound of the Carver speakers. Surrounds are well within most DIY skills, but once torn almost certainly the ribbon should be replaced by someone that knows what they are doing and more importantly has jigs setup to do it.

Read times. Pages: [ 1 ] Go Down. I received these in for my 40th birthday. I'm the original owner. They are serial but only the woofers are original. During the first couple of years the ribbons and crossovers both failed and were replaced by Carver. The ribbons are 60", rather than the two 30" that were original.
This product has passed all of our rigorous quality assurance testing and is performing wonderfully. These speakers are not in the best of shape cosmetically, but sonically are perfect. The ribbon drivers were just recently rebuilt and are performing flawlessly. These have 4 12 inch woofers and a 60 inch ribbon driver 2 separate ribbon drivers - 30 inch each.
