The latter for more of the Jimi thing.

Duane's tones were a bit different I believe he used JBLDF's some argue that these were actually Cerwin Vega copies of those speakers and would cut out sections of his 4x12 back panels to get them to act a bit more like open backed cabs--so a less common recipe, for sure.

My EVs are great, just loud. On the lowest setting, it won't work for stage volume On the second click, too loud. I'm thinking I should have bought the cab now. Greenback ReIssues are 98dB, for reference. The tone is considerably different, though. A bright cap is a small capacitor wired across the volume pot in this case, the HX volume , that allows frequencies above a certain point to bypass across the volume knob unattenuated.

When the volume is dimed, all frequencies are unattenuated, so the bright cap should have no effect. At a very low volume setting, the effect of the cap would be greatest, as the frequencies below the capacitors corner frequency would be severely attenuated and the frequencies above would be unattenuated. The larger the capacitor, the lower the corner frequency.

The corner frequency moves as the resistance is changed with the volume pots position, but this should give you some idea. Bass sec would have no cap. Paul said this amp was a 25th anniv. My master volume is not smooth and continuous. It rotates to the next click. The first click is too quiet, the second too loud. Maybe I will send it back for a mod..

You blew my mind with that explanation. I appreciate it, but I'm lost. You know your stuff man! You may want to talk to them about your options. You may prefer one over the other. They may be able to simply adjust the level of attenuation at each "click" to make it more useful for you, if you prefer. If not, you may inquire about those as well.

There are a few other mods they offer as well kitchen sink mod, loop mod, etc , that you might have interest in. Keep in mind if you consider an fx loop that in a Plexi type amp design, a lot of the overdrive happens at the phase inverter and the rest happens with power tube overdrive, transformer saturation, speaker breakup not-relevant with EV's , so an fx loop would come before all of that.

This means that your fx delay, reverb, etc would get overdriven as well overdriven delay and verb do not sound good to my ears. Just a heads up, as the loop mod is supposedly one of the more expensive. Man, thanks a million. Good to know. I never considered the mod possibly changing the characteristic of the amp. I wouldn't want that. I put in a call to ask them exactly what you have said. I would be more than happy if they just changed the step-ups in the attenuation.

I really don't want that at all. I like a bit more bass to my sound. I have a Marshall Silver Jubilee that gives me plenty of "punch". Man, I should have posted I was going to be there on the forums.
