Discussion in ' The Workbench ' started by myself80 , Apr 4, Log in or Sign up. Marshall Amp Forum. Hello all. In my 18 watt build 6V6's , I am installing my 1K 5W screen resistors across pins 4 and 6 on the sockets.
Was researching this today and this is what I figured out. They are the same pins as would be used on el34's. The difference being on the el34's pin 4 is the unused pin on my last build and on the 6v6's pin 6 is unused. On either tube, it looks like the screen resistor goes across the unused pin and the grid resistors. I hope someone can steer me right.
Many thanks in advance! Pin 4 is the screen connection on both tubes. Marshall chose to attach the resistor across pins 4 and 6 and attach the feed wire at pin 6.
Fender also used this same method of attaching the screen resistor on some of their amps. The old Princeton and Deluxe amps used a ohm across pins 5 to 6 for 6v6's.
But I've also seen a ohm across pins 4 to 6 also. Yep, the 1. Both tubes have the same pinout but each company used pin 6 as a connection point for different resistors. The 6V6 is a beam-power tetrode vacuum tube. The lower-powered 6V6 was better suited for average home use, and became common in the audio output stages of "farmhouse" table-top radios , where power pentodes such as the 6F6 had previously been used. The 6V6 required less heater power and produced less distortion than the 6F6, while yielding higher output in both single-ended and push-pull configurations. Although the 6V6 was originally designed especially for use in automobile radios, [4] the clip-in Loctal base 7C5 , [5] from early , or the lower heater current 12V6GT , both with the identical characteristics to the 6V6, but with the smaller T-9 glass envelope, soon became the tubes of choice for many automotive radios manufacturers. Additionally, the 6V6 had applications in portable battery-operated radios. The data sheet information supplied by the tube manufacturers' design centers, list the typical operation of an audio output stage for a single 6V6 as producing about 5 W of continuous power, and a push-pull pair about 14 W. Tube manufacturers were keen to promote the superiority of the metal tube construction that was introduced on April 1, , and large quantities of the 6V6 tube were produced in the following decade, many as military supply JAN tubes, and the price of the metal and glass versions were held to closely the same retail price level for the first few years of their production.

This amp was designed and built with several different goals in mind. I thought that a nice single ended UL 6V6 design should be just about right. The second goal was to test a hypothesis. Now there is much truth to this when using tubes with directly heated cathodes, but with unipotential cathode tubes i. Lastly, I wanted this amp to have just a little bit different visual aesthetic.

We've stopped making empty cabs for folks for a couple of reasons. The way our busness is set up we only make money if there is an amp in the cabinet, so we lose on making empty cabs. If you've got a good deal on a used Carr amp but want a different color, or you'd rather have it converted to a head, or vice versayour best option is to save for a new one and get it exactly how you want it. As the original owner of a new Carr amp, you'll also get a Lifetime Warranty. From time to time we revise the circuitry in our amplifiers, but we do not offer upgrades to existing amplifiers. We are set up for new amp production and don't revisit older amps unless it is a repair.
