8 Car Noises: What They Mean & If You Should Worry

Skip to main content. Verified Purchase. Oh man, this thing is a life saver! Since I was 16, I've been personally swapping out my head unit in every vehicle I've owned. In all 4 of my cars over the years, I got this very annoying, high-pitch whining whenever I used AUX while charging my Read more. In all 4 of my cars over the years, I got this very annoying, high-pitch whining whenever I used AUX while charging my phone I'm talking at least 5 different phones.

The sound always seemed to get louder as the car accelerated, having friends jokingly call my car the "Go Kart". I'm 23 now, and a few months ago, I finally decided to quit being lazy and do a little googling.

Within 10 minutes, I read about grounding loops, and it fit my description perfectly. Grabbed this, and it completely fixes everything. Bass sounds great and the quality is super clear. Now, when I charge my phone, the sound quality is exactly the same as it's always been when I listen to music without charging. I didn't realize this at first, and found it very strange how turning the bass up on my headunit seemed to do nothing.

As soon as I bumped my phone up to Max, the bass sounded perfect. This issue occurs even if my volume is down just one from full volume, so make sure it is completely up.

Problem: The infamous high pitched noise from the Bluetooth connection is present even with car's engine off. If I pause the music, there comes the noise again. Bass increased and went distorded, boomy and uncontrolled, hights not crisp and neutral, music imaging and details just went away.

I mainly listen to smooth and contemporary jazz, where you will hear the subtle details in the music. These adjectives just disappeared using this isolator. Don't get me wrong, it is not a bad product. It actually does what it is supposed to do, but with a tradeoff.

If you are not into music sound quality, it will do the trick. After doing some research, figure I'll be working on the ground connections to try to minimize its differences in potential.

I'm almost sure the problem lies there Wish I had known about this sooner, I've been putting up with that engine high pitch sound for years. Now it sounds great, the way it should.

Why can't car manufacturers make their aux jack with something like this built in? Makes no sense. Finally the whizzing sound is gone when I listen to my satellite radio. Anyways, great product. It was making a crazy buzzing sound, it didn't sound good at all, I thought the speakers were defective until I decided to try this.

After some googling, I found out it was a grounding issue and tried various different grounds within my car, none of I did a custom tablet install into my car, which required hacking a bit into the factory wires to get a 12v ignition power source. I used that wire to power the portable USB charger, which charges the tablet. When I was all done with the install and audio interface stuff, it sounded perfect Immediately, loud hissing, buzzing, static, and popping came onto the speakers, and when I drove there was the loud high -pitched whine from the alternator was also there.

After some googling, I found out it was a grounding issue and tried various different grounds within my car, none of which helped.

Most all the recommendations for solving the issue was a ground loop isolator, and I found this on Amazon. It was cheap and had great reviews, so I decided to try it out. I was prepared for it to not work since the sound was so loud and awful in my car, but it came today and I installed it.

It seriously is like magic. Only at very high volume levels can I vaguely hear the alternator noise. It's pretty awesome. The price is so cheap, you can't go wrong. The radio white noise is lower with this on aux than it is anywhere else. No high pitched whine at all even at high volumes. I have a watt 12 inch subwoofer and there has been no base degradation AT ALL, it even may have cleaned up the music This solved the annoying ground loop problem in my car instantly.

I have a watt 12 inch subwoofer and there has been no base degradation AT ALL, it even may have cleaned up the music signal some. I have been using for about a month and no failures. Its small enough to be tucked away and hidden, but it's not ugly to begin with so that's not necessary.

This thing is a beast. This does exactly what it is supposed to. Both the high pitched whine and the whine that changed with engine speeds disappeared when I ran my audio through the isolator. While it came with limited instructions, it really did not need any.

Listening to audiobooks went from frustrating to enjoyable. Anything with strong bass makes the speakers sound blown, like crackling. Went to another brand and audio sounds as good as without Went to another brand and audio sounds as good as without filter, and no whine. Would not recommend. EDIT: Seller contacted me and sent replacement.

Works better. Updated to 4 stars. Reduced but did not eliminate ground loop issues in two of my cars. Still get a high pitched whine in one, the other one had no effect.

Edit-- Mpow reached out to me and replaced one of the units. We'll see how it works. Appreciate their way of doing business! Adding a star. I had a horrible high pitch buzzing noise while this was on. I purchased this and connected between the cars input and the output of my Bluetooth adapter and this fixed the buzzing I have a Bluetooth dongle that hooks up to my cars auxiliary input which is also powered by my car charger. I can't believe I was suffering through podcasts without it - that noise was giving me headaches - and music sounds so much better now too. Say you've got a car with a factory aux input. It may be that there's a ground loop between that and the cigarette lighter power port. This means that if you connect an electronic device a phone or Bluetooth receiver to the power AND the aux This means that if you connect an electronic device a phone or Bluetooth receiver to the power AND the aux input, you're going to hear a high-pitched whine coming out of your stereo.

Now, if you're an audiophile, you probably took your car in and had this rectified. Me, I'm lazy. Also, I don't need gold-plated connectors on audio bits because I think it's a waste of money and makes no difference to anyone but a dog. Anyhow, I did have a ground loop issue. This device resolved the noise it was causing.

That's what it does, and it does it well. Pros: Small Comes with an aux cable. Just plug it in one end, connect the other end to your aux input. Simple 5 second install Filters out any ground loop noise No noticeable change in audio quality by filtering out the noise Come: Dogs may notice a difference in audio quality.

Buy one, play it for your dog, then ask. Just buy it. Go on. I'll wait. Using this ground loop isolator, the sound is now exactly the When I plugged in my iPhone or other audio devices, there was no issue, and I could turn up quieter audio sources like podcasts and hear them with a nice low noise floor.
