This posting came open a couple weeks ago and it seemed a perfect fit- Russian based at Voznesenka and distance delivery to Nikolaevsk. My former coworker in Wasilla was at Voz for 3 yrs and she said many of the people she worked with yrs ago are still there and it's a nice school with nice people The school is in Voznesenka, one of the four Russian Old Believer villages on the Kenai.
I'm getting leads on housing near Homer, since I'll be living there and going to the village each day. Parents want the kids to keep up their Russian and they teach it from pre-k to HS in the villages!
It's NOT an elective, but part of the curriculum! That was a BIG selling point for me. It's probably the only school program in the USA where Russian is not an elective like all languages usually are. I'll have a class of 9th grade geography too. I asked what the language of delievery was for that class and the principal said last yr it was English, but I could easily do some in Russian to help the kids expand their vocab in Russian which is what they need.
I could teach the class in either language if asked, just needed to know what they expect. This small school of just over got bilingual program of the year in AK a few yrs ago too. I had a couple other options on the table, but this was my first choice. It just makes sense after over ten years in Moscow to go back into a Russian speaking community as a Russian teacher again.
I think it will make re-entry into the USA easier too. At least when I throw out a random Russian word mid conversation, someone will understand me! That happened quite a bit in Wasilla when I did Russian bilingual there. Well yeah, it's short notice on high season out, and back for a "stuff run" at winter break. May use miles to get back after winter break depending on the prices. My first work day is Aug 3. We start earlier to compensate for holy days during the yr where kids have off and we add school days elsewhere so kids don't miss tons of school for church holidays.
It's a public school, but the District adjusts the calendar in this case to accommodate the students. I want to get there, get a good AWD preferably Subaru, and then deal with housing and settle the dust before school starts.
I'm very lucky I have a friend in Anchorage helping with the vehicle issue now and hopefully it will be bought and waiting for me and I'll just transfer money if we find smthg. This is awesome though. I've never been further south than Portage and Kenai is beautiful, jaw dropping beautiful! Can't wait!!!!

It looks like Amazon Prime will be my friend too. Homer is pretty small, but does have some shops. Nearest Walmart is nearly mi away though.

A trusted friend in Anchorage helped me with a car purchase this week, just transferred money for a deposit on a rental house about halfway between Homer and the school.
So that will cut the commute time quite a bit. The school is miles out of Homer, so being a bit further out on the road to school will help. On this end, I'm still micromanaging all the "stuff" what goes now, what goes in December, what gets binned Do Costco and Amazon ship to PO boxes? I'm going to have to get a PO box in Fritz Creek. There is a Safeway in Homer for groceries which is good, but I get all my vitamins, supplements, cold medicne, etc. I'm used to buying that stuff in bulk as I had to once a yr when I visited the US.
It seems I'll have to stock up on that stuff through the winter as well. In my case, I send things that they refuse to send to a PO Box to my school's physical address.
I often have to do that for Target items as well. The maintenance manager or someone picks up the school mail, and I get my package at the school.

My school is also a PO box mailing address which is why I figured shipping to the school wouldn't be an option in cases where the mail Nazis don't deliver to a PO box. On Wednesday, as West Anchorage High School students walked down the aisle of the Sullivan Arena, they filed into their seats, waiting patiently for diplomas they had worked for the last four years to receive. But for 17 of the students, they had received scholastic recognition at a ceremony two weeks earlier. They were first batch of students to spend their entire educational lives in a Russian language immersion program at West Anchorage High School last night. The students were the first in the nation to complete the program — attending classes in Russian from kindergarten to the 12th grade.
