Industrial Lubricants. Industrial Cleaners. Electronic Protection. Industrial Coatings. Sealant and adhesive dispensers. Speakers are playing increasingly larger roles in our lives. This can be accounted for by the proliferation of portable electronic devices, bathroom speakers, wireless headphones, smart cars, house-alarm systems, and AI-assisted speakers such as Amazon and Google Echo. Adhesives play a significant role in the assembly and repair of speakers due to their simplicity of application, light weight, and strong bonding.

Other advantages of using adhesives in speakers include cost savings, improved appearance, and better noise and vibration absorption. Epoxy adhesives , in particular, are suited perfectly to assemble and repair speakers. Epoxies are able to handle the high temperatures and extreme stresses created by the coil and magnet in a speaker. Epoxies are gap-filling adhesives that take longer than other adhesives to cure but provide a strong and chemically resistant bond.

This chemical resistance includes resistance to water and moisture, which makes epoxies ideal for use in waterproof speakers. UV-curing epoxies are a variation of epoxies that include their usual superb strength and resistance, but are able to be processed much faster with the help of UV light. Cyanoacrylates are also desireable in speaker repairs due to their efficient process, fast fixture speed and ease of use due to being single component.

Adhesives, once used alongside screws, are able to dampen vibrations and stop the components within the speaker from coming loose with the speaker vibrations. Permabond is a toughened cyanoacrylate adhesive that is ideal for use in applications regarding the speaker cone , such as surround to cone, cone to spider, and dust cap to cone parts of the speaker.

It is black in colour, making it suitable for dark surfaces, easy to use, and provides a good gap fill. Permabond is a low viscosity cyanoacrylate adhesive that provides excellent adhesion with rubber, metal and plastics. It is especially designed for applications where high temperature resistance is required. The is also fast setting, easy to use, and cytotoxicity approved.

To ensure strong bonding within the speakers, ensure that the substrate surfaces are free of dust, grease, oil and dirt by cleaning them with acetone or alcohol wipes before applying the adhesive. For this purpose, we recommend using a solvent wipe such as the Wipemaster Wipe 9.
