Tedxberlin speakers corner

My goal was to capture speakers of the event and overall atmosphere of the event itself. Great location, available natural light and an amazing positive atmosphere made the shooting enjoyable and very successful. Attendees had an opportunity to learn how to identify their purpose, how to influence and manage people, and how to share their passion through the art of storytelling — all of which are critical leadership skills needed to succeed and form our summit title People, Purpose and Passion: The Pathway to Success. Shooting was held in new HubSpot office in Berlin.

By billvon , February 12 in Speakers Corner. BTW: "Black start" refers to the ability of a generating site to start up even if its grid is down. When one factors in cloud cover and shortened daylight hours it changes the calculus, snow cover is not the only consideration. Not to mention this example was in near freezing temperatures.

Like This? Brent's talking about the solar installations being maintained by people who want them to fail, not by people who want them to succeed. Total fabrication, Texas relies on wind for about a quarter of its energy needs and half of it failed.

A much higher failure rate than coal and natural gas. As of Friday, State Farm had received about 18, property claims from customers in Texas, most of them related to frozen and broken water pipes, he said Before reaching One Call Plumbing, she said, the earliest availability she could find online for a plumber to come was April Gochman said.

So no household water till April 22nd. Plumbers digging into all the ceilings then gyprockers , then painters, new floors. Yeah Brent would like the social interactions with tradesmen. They are probably conservative. He could while away the hours talking guns and manly type stuff. Remarkably, natural gas still generated electricity at 38 percent of its total capacity throughout the energy emergency — providing on average over 65 percent of all electricity generation through Monday and Tuesday — despite roughly 30 GW being inoperable due to frozen pipelines holding up fuel.

The three worst-performing generating assets, on the other hand, belonged exclusively to renewable energy sources: solar, hydro, and wind. Had Texas been even more reliant on these energy sources, as renewable energy advocates around the country desire, the energy crisis in Texas would have been even worse. Natural gas outperformed all renewables.

The situation would have been much much worse if Texas relied on renewables more than they already do. A cautionary tale to be sure.

Not now, not soon, but someday it's going to happen. We need to start shifting in the direction of alternative energy. Here is a good article from Utility Dive a industry media source on energy generation and transmission. Brent need not read it because it's not delivered by a FOX hack.

It also deals with the issues in a balanced engineering standpoint. Which tends to use facts rather than "feelings". Power experts cite gas constraints as main cause of ERCOT outages, but system planning questions remain. Summarized best by "The fact that this was not wind's fault is not an argument that the wind system as we currently have it would have done better if it were a bigger part of the grid," said Emily Grubert, assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering at Georgia Tech.

It's an argument that we need to think about how we're designing a grid that is probably going to be subjected to more extremes than it has been in the past for climate change reasons, in particular. It's not really a fuel thing. It's a grid design thing. No need to wean just yet. You can post now and register later. If you have an account, sign in now to post with your account. It reflects anamateurish interest in depicting a fascinating form of feminism that is exemplified by certain exceptional women who I have been privileged to know. It was originally written to be a chapter for my memoir, but when the manuscript became longer than the publisher could accept, I was persuaded that this fixation of mine was too peripheral to my life to be spared editorial surgery. Angels would not condescend to damn our meagre souls. That is why they awe and why they terrify us so. To attempt to depict a human genotype or sociological template that binds together these supremely individualist women who are so unlike one another is an act of hubris. Yet somehow in my experience, they form a vivid tapestry in my mind that has certain shared shapes, colors, and images. It is this that I wish to recall, fully aware of the hazards, but also as an acknowledgement of my lifelong joyful dependence on feminine inspiration. I have written in my memoir [ Public Intellectual: The Life of a Citizen Pilgrim praising the achievements of several remarkable men who created by act of will, innovative learning communities that flourished while they lasted outside of ivy walls.

In the past few years, Massive Open Online Courses MOOCs have become a lens used by educators, entrepreneurs, education reformers and venture capitalists to view the higher education system. They are now a proxy for our hopes and fears for education; how we speak of MOOCs increasingly says more about our personal philosophy than it does about open online courses. Our intent was to create a learning experience that embodied the attributes of the Internet: open, accessible, networked, distributed and participative. The 2, learners who joined our course are now a rounding error in comparison to the large offerings of providers such as edX and Coursera. Yet our original vision continues to shape our research and teaching practices: networking individual learners to foster knowledge creation. It remains my firm belief that the complex challenges that society faces can only be met through a learning architecture that emphasizes knowledge generation over knowledge duplication.

At the same time, the existence of many non-profit organisations and associations is threatened by Corona: no income is generated, costs continue to run, subsidies and donations break down and very few organisations have financial reserves. In our new online training series, we take a closer look at that subject. People fear for their jobs, social security, livelihoods. These are extraordinary times which have to met by extraordinary measures. Many companies are proving their willingness to take exceptional measures.
