Initially I was intending on upgrading the amp, but I have found no need to do that. Only downside I have is lots of my musician friends insist on testing their demo CD's out on my system. For the price, it dont get much better than this. Put a good signal in and you will get Hi-Fi, dont confuse Hi-Fi with sterio. I use mine with my Thorens TD turntable and wharfdale Lintons for pesonal use Hi-Fi ,and for parties and barbiques i plug into my laptop so people can use the mouse to clic on the track they want, sterio.
My cambridge is 9 years old and works perfectly. It's not very often these days you come across a budget product where the quality surpasses the price and by a long way the Cambridge Audio A1 amplifier does just that.
Build quality is supperb, funcionality is basic but when it comes to amplifiers as any Audiofile buff will tell you less is MORE. Sound quality for the money is amazing, sure there are better sounding amps out there but with a price tag to match. Nice warm sound, yet still able to produce require power to really enjoy your music.
This is a great amp for the money! When paired with a decent set of similarly priced speakers, in my case Eltax monitor 3's , the sound is punchy, clear and detailed. Despite it's modest power rating. It can play at high volume effortlessly and never sounds stretched in a well set up system. Took it round with me for 4 years at uni, took a bit of abuse, even used it to amp an electric guitar for a while and it's never once lost any sparkle to the sound.

The main problem with the Amazon service is the fact that if you rent a film that is a 2 disc set you are bound to rent both discs which counts as two rentals against your monthly 6.
As far as I know other rental companies certainly one's I've looked at give you the choice of renting either disc 1 or 2 so if you're not an extras fan like myself you don't "waste" any of your 6 monthly rentals. I notice that very little has changed in more recent budget releases from Cambridge, I think they got it pretty much right originally!
The quality is fantastic, no detectable hiss from the speakers, the general feel of everything is that of quality. If you are looking for a budget amp then consider the Cambridge range. Had the Cambridge A1 amplifier for a few years now about 2 of which spent under a bed gathering dust! Still works as good now as the day I bought it.
Brilliant sound. Good value. No problems with build quality so far. Had problems initially with the warranty cover however was resolved with extra cover. The Cambridge Audio A1 amplifier features a reasonable amount of outputs for a budget model and good powerful sound. It appears to have as much oomph as the 80 wpc sansui it has replaced.

Cambridge Audio A1 MK3 SE Stereo Integrated Amplifier
The one I bought is the Mk1 version. Very nice sounding with a very warm middle-y sound naturally. I bought it to amplify speakers from my PC in a small office room and it sounds great through some ol d technics speakers I had. Anyway, I just need to tap the volume knob to get it to come out of left and right sides.

The company lets a single basic amplifier evolve into a variety of models depending on the situation: thus the Azur A is the junior sibling of another fine product, the A. The main difference? Otherwise, the two amps are all but identical, meaning that the A looks just as good as the more-expensive version and is just as well built, with a high-quality look and feel to its aluminium fascia and casework. The amp also has two sets of speaker outputs and a headphone socket, and a remote control comes as standard. The handset can also drive the Azur CD players and tuner. And if all this flexibility makes you wonder about the sound quality, features such as tone control defeat should provide some degree of reassurance. As, of course, will the way the Azur A sounds. It benefits from a decent run-in, and after a few days becomes capable of a big, powerful, hard-charging sound when the music demands, having plenty of headroom for dynamic slams even when running at high levels.

Later both an A series and an Azur ended up in my lap, but there were many other projects to write about and I skipped Cambridge Audio again. Fast forward some 2 years, two things happened: I went for a short trip to the UK and one of the two CA amps returned to me in a gear swap. Cambridge Audio A2 is a simple, low powered integrated from the line that included models from A1 to A5 in at least two versions. It has basic functions: there are tone and balance controls, but no filters, no headphone jack, only one set of speakers can be connected. CA recommends Ohm speakers as indicated on the rear panel, and the amp does get warm when powering 4 Ohm speakers at higher volume levels. We tested it with our Quadral Tribun MK IV and after some 20 minutes of loud listening the amp did not blow outputs, but it got warm enough that we felt safer to bring the volume back down to moderate level. At low and mid volume levels the amp did not heat up excessively, but I would recommend to stick with 6 Ohms or higher.
