Channels 1 and 2 are unchanged from the original Legacy, but a third channel has been added to the amp, along with a new high-gain option for this channel. For players unfamiliar with the sound of this amp, the Legacy III features a nice array of vintage sounding American and British tones well suited to a variety of players in the hard rock, metal, and blues genres. It can operate at Watts, 50 Watts, or 15 Watts, selectable via a switch on the rear of the amp. The design is decidedly retro in appearance. Our review unit came dressed brown on brown, but Seafoam Green… err, we mean Vai Green, is also an option. Other features include a clean boost user adjustable, up to 6dB , digital reverb, and a series effects loop.

It's too sweet and singing to get a raunchy tone like '80s hair and hard rock stuff.

They are probably the best budget line Marshall has ever produced IMO and run the gammut from Plexi to JCM and Modern and have a range of different wattages to fit whatever you're looking for.

I'd recommend Blackstar as someone else mentioned as well. Agree with previous posts about the Legacy. Had a 3, could NOT get Marshall style biting rhythm out of it. Another good affordable option for hotrod screaming Marshall tone? Jet City. If 15W is acceptable, you might also look at the Laney IRT Studio, which weighs almost nothing for a tube amp and less than a variety of rackmount solid state equipment I've seen. I preferred the crunch channel in it boosted with the BM. It really worked great with anything. I hear people say they're not great straight into the loop, but I guess me having it in the loop of the GSP made up for that. I actually wanna get a couple more and run them with different settings with a loop switcher.

This is a three-channel, all-valve affair that mixes genuine portability - it's reassuringly weighty, but easily carried in one hand - with a choice of output levels for live use as well as in the studio.

This is a great all around amp for any musical style. I play everything from Merle Travis thumb style country to old school almost metal from the 's.. I've played it through EVM12L's in the TL cab's and Celestion vintage 30's, stock modern Marshall cab with Celestion 75's, cab with Celestion vintage 30's and an old carvin cab with their brand british watt speakers.
