Snell speakers reviews

Without a doubt, these speakers are built to the high standards that Snell Acoustics is known for with solid cabinet construction and great looks. The heavy cabinet helps reduces sonic colorations that often come into play on many less expensive speakers. More recently, Dr. J7 Monitor Our front left and right channels consisted of a pair of J7 bookshelf monitors formerly the M7 , which are by far the most impressive bookshelf speakers we have seen. In fact, it is somewhat of an insult to actually call them bookshelf speakers given the build and sound quality of these speakers.

A familiar Snell?

Well collected them this morning and I have been giving them a dam good thrashing over the past 6 to 7 hours. They have replaced the excellent HSM's in my system. The specs are 90db 4ohm with amp rating between 40 to My amp is 72wpc with huge transformers so no problems drivng them at all. The speakers are well built and were made in They look quite nice in the Mahogany finish when the grills are in place but not the prettiest speakers with them off.

They have a 10inch bass that extends down to 20Hz A 5inch mid and two 1inch tweeters. One on the front and one on the back. They are front ported. I set them up about 7 to 8 feet apart and around a foot and and a half away from the back wall with no tow in. Sound wise Hmmmmm, They are incredible speakers and my jaw is still on the floor it really is.

Top end is airy and spacious and well detailed. They mids are lovely nothing is rammed down your throat vocals are simply incredible and hang in the air. The bass is big fast and my god you want tight? Well they give the tightest and most taunt full bass I have had in any of my systems and only ounce before have I heard bass as tight. Really well defined as well.

But what impressed me the most from this the way this three way speaker is how well it integrates. The bass does not swap the mids and the mid does not swamp the top end at all. Very well balanced and life like presentation with great dynamics. They have had the bass drivers re-done and cable changed with Audionote Lexus. Also they have been recapped and in very nice condition. I will have to have a bake off this year as I think you will be very impressed with the speakers.

I tried lots of music from Rock to Electronic. The Prodigy Fat of the land smack my bitch up. I sat back and waited for what seems and age for that evil bass line to kick and I was expecting the walls to rattle but no! It handled the music with such ease and grace but managing to sound full boiled with plenty of attack in the upper bass. Leftfield Leftism was next up. This album has some mad sounds that can if the speaker cant play complex pieces sound muddled and confused.

None of that when I played the track Melt. Spacious sound, easy to pick out the sounds separation and sound staging were first class. Norah Jones up next good female vocal tester. Sweet voice very extended never getting harsh at high volumes. The piano work was a delight to hear.

Rock solid imaging. The double bass is used in one track and sounds big and fast and so real. They are truly a wonderful speaker and easy to accommodate as well despite being a pretty big speaker. I have fell in love with my music collection all over again. The Count 5 posts. April 18, The specs are 90db 4ohm with amp ra. Are they C's with the sloping fronts or the Cii's, big oblong boxes that I had for years?

If they have already been worked on and you decide they are keepers well worth having Guy at Puresound give them a tweak to see if he can get any more of the original magic out of them. Mine were originals but I went miles to pick them up and when I got there, in the days before the Wam, email and digital photos I found they were Cii's and not C's.

I bought them anyway and enjoyed them for years. Great speakers. Well done. Yoda, They have the slopped front. I spoke to guy at Puresound and told him what had been done and he knew the guy who worked on them and he told be they would be fine so that was good to know before I brought then.

The Snells will no be going any place. Count me in. So far :D:D Only had about 7 hours with them though. Will stick a review up when I have had a chance to fully evaluate them. Forum Rules. Ken, point taken and with that I suppose I should. But regardless, my comment was based on what's being said here in this thread and the corresponding msrp, a number that doesn't register with me as However, I also believe that all customers also need Obviously it must be something special if Joe purchased a pair, he has had some excellent speakers pass through his listening space.

Listening tests, including side-by-side comparisons with other high-quality speakers in the same general price range, showed that the Snell Type D sounded every.

March Reviewed by Jeff Van Dyne. Warranty: Five years parts and labor on speakers, one year on subwoofer amplifier. But unlike some other companies, since then Snell has gone quietly about the business of advancing speaker design and sound, and has been quite successful at doing so. With such a history and reputation, I was expecting a well-built and solidly engineered surround-sound speaker system in the Snell Series 7. The K7 came in a natural cherry veneer with aluminum top and bottom caps and grille. The LCR7 and Basis were sheathed in the same lovely cherry, but with black caps and grilles. The M7, on the other hand, came in black oak. Normally I have strong opinions about the look of one speaker finish over another, but these were all so attractive that it came down to a coin toss. Other finishes are available.

Are Snell Speakers any good?

You know it was only a matter of time before they came out with a matching center. Apparently, it only took them a year to bring out their new Phantom Center. What remains to be seen is what surrounds they'll come out with for this line. The Phantom B7's are a very distinctive speaker with a cabinet and stylings much like the bigger A7 Illusion. The B7 features dual 4.

Snell K7 are built on high-end drivers of the Norwegian company SEAS - mm tweeters with a silk dome and cm mid-woofers impregnated with a special cellulose composition. It's even surprising that such high-quality drivers found their place in loudspeakers of this price range. K7 bodies are made by hand and can be easily called monolithic. The upper panel and the base are cast from metal, and the side walls are made of solid wood with massive thickness. The final result guarantees the complete absence of hull voices at any volume level.

The XA 60s are the best of the bunch. What is so great about them? There is no one single characteristic that makes them stand out. For example, it certainly is the case that the Silverlines have greater high-frequency energy and resolution. But, that being said, the Snells have a coherence of sound to them. From top to bottom, everything is dead even and neutral, with nothing sounding any more prominent than anything else. They make all other speakers I've heard either sound lean Silverline , bright other Snells , or colored Totem by comparison. They are rock solid neutral.

Snell type C/I Speaker System Review

User Name Remember Me? Socal Sam. Very well made with Vifa drivers. Geeze Sam!

I grew up with large speakers with wide baffles, but, as speakers reduced in size over the years I noticed that something was missing from the sound and, when I stuck my head firmly into speaker design, I began to understand the acoustic problems caused by the baffle step. Put simply, as the baffle size decreases, the point at which the acoustic radiation changes from hemispherical to spherical goes up in frequency. It also becomes sharper and narrower in bandwidth as the sides of the cabinet, and the walls and floor of the room, are further removed from the equation. So, this 6dB step in the power response becomes acoustically more obvious.

Snell speakers come from America and have only been intermittently available in the UK. In fact, they're probably rather better known for the late Peter Snell's original designs, replicas of which have been made by Audio Note UK for a number of years. Meanwhile, the US company has not stood still but has evolved new and more fashionably attired ranges. Most importantly, it has also taken on board the US market's considerable enthusiasm for 'Home Theater' products.
