Report Post. I have seen this - crackling and sometimes cracking and losing sound from one or more channels. Turning my receiver on and off seems to fix it. Thanks for the tip This can't be an issue with the receiver though, surely this is a shield issue fixable with a firmware update? It happens inside any app, particularly noticeable on YouTube Any video has a noticeable audio crackle, and the sound quality is appalling The shield needs rebooting to fix, but sometimes closing the app and reopening a few times will fix Noticed it myself in Unkilled, usually happens every day Popping and crackle sound For me it's just the YouTube app.

Ever since the Youtube app got upgraded to the new UI instead of the old red UI, the popping crackling sound started to happen. To test you can remove all updates to the Youtube app and the crackling and popping sounds go away. Hey, guys, my Nvidia Shield TV model also causes cracking noises. It doesn't matter whether I play content via an installed app, such as YouTube, Netflix or Kodi, or whether I watch content via the the integrated Google Cast feature.

The sound can be heard clearly, no matter if I use the speakers of my TV or if I use my sound bar including subwoofer, which is connected to the TV. The sounds appear irregularly sometimes every 2 minutes, then again every few seconds and they sound like the crackle of an old vinyl record. Do you have similar experiences? What does Nvidia say? Is this a known problem? I have never noticed this. I use a 16gb with my soundbar connected via hdmi arc with my lg 65 4k.

I noticed previously, the same soundbar would crackle when I was rocking a Roku tv box and connected via optical. It fixed itself when I switch to hdmi arc after upgrading my tv. Shield was simply plug and play and without noise issues. In a nut shell, optical audio connections are actually known for this PentatonicSteel said: I have never noticed this. That sounds interesting, because my soundbar is connected to my TV via optical cable. Any idea why that might be?

It seems to me that only the shield is causing the problems. It isn't "the shield" though, it could be any box there. It's just seemingly a more common problem than people realize. You will get a much better sound out of hdmi as well it supports more advanced formats than optical which your shield is capable of producing.

With it not crackling while using internal tv functions, all I can think of is it being a conflict of the tv processing the audio from external devices. Willing to bet if you test via hdmi, you will be pleasantly impressed.

PentatonicSteel said: It isn't "the shield" though, it could be any box there. Unfortunately, my current sound bar has no HDMI connection. Do you or anyone else have another idea? Otherwise I have to buy a soundbar with an HDMI connection to see if it is actually the connection with the optical cable that causes the cracking noises. Did you try changing the audio output format in your t. Or your sound bar? If that doesn't work. Time to replace that dinosaur buds. PentatonicSteel said: Did you try changing the audio output format in your t.

Hey PentatonicSteel, thanks for your helpful replies! Changing the audio output format in my TV settings seems to do the trick! I changed it from stereo sound to something like multi channel sound although my soundbar is a 2. No more crackling noises so far! I get crackling sound in the YouTube app. Some videos play fine, others have crackling every now and then.

Haven't noticed crackling in any other apps so far. Damn, my crackling sounds are back. Think I found a solution Use that port for the shield and the sound issues should be fixed. Has worked for me so far. Worked for me! I couldn't believe it, the first hdmi had arc and something else, and hdmi2 had only arc. Has anyone found an actual fix for this? It starts happening gradually after being on for a white, and does it with all apps until rebooted.

I also have a Roku connected in the same way, but it does not have the same audio issues. Reboot seems to be the only and temporary solution. Same here. Started crackling about 3 days ago. Haven't changed anything in my setup. Tried different HDMI cables, removing my receiver from the setup and even tried playing some local files. All give the same result: crackling after a few minutes increasing by time.

Only a reboot fixes it but only for a few minutes. Hello, since the installation of my nvidia shield i have the following problem. When using the netflix-app and switching to example the youtube-app, the sound is "cracking".

I have tried all the audio settings on my TV and shield without result. Also changing the cable to an HDMI 2. When rebooting the shield, or changing to another HDMI-input and back will fix the sound issue.

The changes are pretty small, though, so anyone looking for the most bang for their buck may want to consider opting for 's LG CX model regardless — and you can read all about it below.
