CPAC is an opportunity for elected officials and activists from across the country to meet and speak with others in the movement. Since , the American Conservative Union Foundation has hosted the event which welcomes thousands of attendees annually. Each year, Deutchman accompanies two students who have taken her course on American Conservatism to the conference. Attending such an important national conference is incredibly advantageous for political science students such as Blades and Wetzel. In fact, half of the more than 11, in attendance were under the age of 30, and a popular panel featured young activists from colleges across the country speaking on their efforts within the Conservative movement. Blades, who is conducting Honors research on the Tea Party movement, was not only able to learn more about the subject of his Honors work, but he was able to experience the passion of the Conservative movement firsthand.

Christie addressing conservatives at CPAC today

I won solidly among conservatives in Florida, won among conservatives in Nevada, and have the most delegates in this race. I was one of those that stood up and fought against the intrusion on religious liberty in my state. In , Romney was seen as the conservative alternative to then-front-runner and eventual GOP nominee Sen. John McCain. Now it appears conservatives are searching for an alternative to him. There is no conservative candidate in the race anymore, and Romney, he was our hope for us.

Texas Gov. Rand Paul, R-Ky. The Obama administration — and possibly the president himself — is expected Friday to address a new contraception rule requiring religious organizations to provide employees with health insurance that covers birth control, which has drawn the ire of Catholic bishops, Republican lawmakers and even some Democrats.
The move, based on state models, will almost certainly not satisfy bishops and other religious leaders since it will preserve the goal of women employees having their birth control fully covered by health insurance. Sources say it will be respectful of religious beliefs but will not back off from that goal, which many religious leaders oppose since birth control is in violation of their religious beliefs.
Laurie Goodstein of the New York Times, meanwhile, details how the bishops were ready to respond once the administration announced its decision last year to move forward with the mandate. I got word from the Red White and Blue Fund that some guy sent in a million dollars.
