Mostly for just the cabinet and I was going to replace the speakers in it. I know that it has a 1" tweeter, 5" mid and 12" sub in it. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations or good sites I could buy individual parts from to make these things shine. They work right now, but sound like crap. Here's a picture of one of the speakers for your viewing pleasure.

Joined Mar 10, Messages Joined Jul 11, Messages 10, Oh my god To understand why these are so great, let me give you a bit of quick history of JBL. They were so popular and sounded so great that engineers were buying them and taking them home for personal use. JBL capitalized on that and made the JBL L, which basically used the same drivers as the studio monitor in more of a consumer package.
The speaker was tremendously successful, and many of their designs were evolutions of that original package. You can see a bit of mass-market starting to take hold in them veneer instead of real wood like in their previous speakers, etc but the components are still top notch. The H woofers the victims in this case are absolutely wonderful. They go low enough and can handle enough power to make most subwoofers laugh.
That would be like gutting an old camaro or mustang and shoehorning in an engine from a kia. The kits to do it yourself are cheaper, but JBL drivers have small voice coil gaps which make them a bit more challenging to refoam compared to other brands of woofers. The JBL features front-panel high frequency and ultra-high frequency trim adjustments for the fine-tuning of audio response according to the system and room. Its heavy-duty dual binding posts allow bi-amping or bi-wiring while its 94dB sensitivity and 6-ohm impedance enable the to be driven up to watts maximum amplifier power. The new JBL incorporates a 19mm titanium diaphragm, ultra-high frequency compression driver Nd , which joins an improved 50mm titanium diaphragm high frequency compression driver Nd-3 in a one-piece SonoGlass horn system.

It's harder and harder to tell if it's vintage or retro, because most people do not seem to differentiate these concepts. Let's repeat then: 'retro' is a fashion that refers to the style of design from many years ago. In retro, it's all about an impression of returning to what once was, an appearance, not an essence. Vintage is just a seemingly similar concept to retro. In fact, these are two different approaches, which have a common core: reaching for ideas from the past. Vintage is not a fashion, but rather a stable trend, in the audio industry it has been present since the late s, having the largest fan base in Japan and more generally — in Asia. It is primarily about using technical solutions abandoned today and replaced with others, in theory, better ones. But while retro feed on nostalgia, vintage in audio is a largely pragmatic trend: it's about restoring some elements to the ritual of playing music that have been sacrificed in the name of improving the bandwidth extension, its alignment, power load and distortion reduction. Although these are all desirable, important changes, they have also caused a loss of such qualities as: directness of the presentation, pace, naturalness, fluidity and an organic sound.

Just In: The JBL 4349 From Northridge, California
Speaker Asylum Tweeters wired in the opposite polarity to woofers - solution? In a proper design, LR2 will give you a deep null cancellation, suckout centered on the crossover point when the tweeter is connected reversed relative to a proper LR2 connection, which is reversed to begin with. So, by putting an LR2 with all polarities the same as you suggest, you are listening to the reverse null. Drew is suggesting that by inverting the woofer instead of the tweeter, transient response is improved. I question this because transient response impulse response is a function of BOTH drivers. Transients do not "only go through the tweeter", but are vectoral summation of the acoustic output of both the tweeter and the woofer.

LOG IN. Edit Delete. Classic JBL monitor type, with the viseral thud that is more often than not, lacking in a small monitor.
