It just plain sounds better. However, there are many subtle changes in effect, moment to moment gradations that alter the flow of an entire track. The vinyl has been well played and frequently. I have played the LP in an average equipment and it sounds much better than it looks.

No skips, no jumps just background noise in the quite parts that will benefit from a professional clean. It still amazes me how good this old pressings were!. Please note that this vinyl is over 53 years old and will not transform in anything different to the condition listed. The spine is fully legible with corner wear. The original EMI promotional inner is complete but torn on the top. It is the genuine article and in MONO! This is how you'd have heard it on pirate radio back in the 60's.

Not many people had stereo in those days. It definitely has a different sound and mix Mono was the main format of the day and so those mixes were done at separate sessions for each track. The whole stereo album was mixed in a single day with Norman Smith doing a ham-fisted attempt, so this really is the definitive mix of this greatest album with significant differences to the stereo mix. Mono was where all the work and time went and the stereo mix was pretty much cobbled together as an afterthought.

The spine is in condition. Photos are of the actual item. Visually-graded vinyl: A visual grading will identify physical flaws such as scratches and can help determine whether a record has been cared-for properly. A visual grading will not identify noise or crackle caused by non-visible sources. Most of the records I sell are between thirty and sixty years old and so it is likely that there may be some background noise even if they look perfect.

A stereo record produces a stereo sound via both lateral and vertical groove modulation whereas a mono record is not intended to produce any sound from vertical modulation. Playing a mono record with a stereo cartridge will create distortion because it is trying to pick-up the vertical stereo part of the signal, whereas this is not intended to be heard on a mono record and so is just noise.

Using a pre-amp with a mono switch will eliminate the noise caused by vertical modulation leaving just the lateral groove signal which is how the record was intended to be heard.

If you do not have a mono switch on your amp or pre-amp you will be reproducing the noise from the vertical part of the signal and so the record will not sound as good. This is not any fault of the record, it is inherent to playing any mono record through a system that it was not designed for.

Guide to grades used Mint Cover - Looks new - no marks, wear or damage Disc - Looks unplayed - no marks visible Near Mint Cover - Looks virtually new with signs of handling- Minor wear creases but no marks or damage. Light sleeves may show slight discoloration due to age. Corners may be a little blunt. Opening edge may show feathering caused by removal of record. Visible creases or laminate lift. Localised sticker removal damage. Disc - The record has been played frequently and has noticeable surface marks, occasional light scratches and paper scuffs.

Corners noticeable bashed. Heavy creases. Disc - The record looks very well played and the sound quality has probably deteriorated noticeably. Usually used as collection filler I am not a dealer but an amateur collector selling duplicated items or records that I no longer want to keep mostly due to space.

A proper mono mix starts at the recording stage, for instance using different microphones on each guitar amp will help differentiate them in the final mix. Studio 2 was fitted out with two Altec monitors for most of the decade but th e mono mixes were made using the right hand speaker only. Having just recently recorded some demos I decided to see if this made a difference and boy was it easier to get a clearer more defined balance through a single monitor. A fold down is simply taking both the left and right channels and combining them into a single channel which can lead to some of the instrumentation being sonically buried.
