For some strange reason, both pickups on the Hofner were towards the neck. Paul had his newer model Hofner with the pick-ups spread apart.

Cheap beatles revolver tone? Thread starter buzzp Start date Oct 8, First Prev 2 of 6 Go to page. Messages 1, I know that a pedal made in isn't what the Beatles used in The pedals are made to emulate amps that are extremely expensive or unobtanium, in this case, it's the Vox Which is why I'm asking for pedal recommendations.

Messages Good luck in replicating that with a pedal! I wasn't trying to be a jerk or discourage your mission. I just mean, in general. Last edited: Oct 8, Messages 7, As I recall, that raspy distorted sound we hear on Revolver is largely due to the solid-state Vox amp they were using at the time.

I'll have to consult my Beatles Equipment book to confirm. Baskervils said:. Yes, for me LOTS of compressors is the perfect bit of advice. If you want the vintage sound, you need compressors that really throb. Outboard compressors, summing mixers and most mixers made in the last 30 years are not colorful enough. You are correct. It isn't that much cheaper, at least not what I'm seeing on reverb right now. Good idea tho! I always forget about hudson. Oh yeah - Revolver isn't "into the desk", it's a Vox UL Tiny Montgomery Silver Supporting Member.

Messages 5, Seems like the Skreddy Rubber Soul would come close? The best "cheap" into the transistor desk sound I've found comes from the Realistic Radio Shack Reverb. It uses a transistor preamp into an MN chip and sounds very little like a reverb.

But, turn the reverb slider down and the volume slider up and it's a nasty, desk type fuzz. It's a very cool sound. Not conventionally pretty, but a great, distinctive color that adds a lot to the song and to the vibe of the record.

Messages 2, Just buy used and avoid the issues with the builder. He used to be great. Now it's a game of chance. Baskervils Member. I've had the LoFi on my radar for quite some time, do you stack compressors? You must log in or register to reply here. Trending Topics. Where does Jimmy Page rank as a guitar player?

The Beatles and Vox Amps

The footage and audio were captured between January , , at Twickenham Film Studios and the basement recording studio at Apple Corps in London. The film promises to offer a more positive spin on the interpersonal relationships of the members of the Beatles during a very tumultuous period where the band was splitting apart at the seams. The following is a trainspotter's guide to the various guitars, basses and amps seen in Get Back. In addition to its usage at that performance, this Telecaster also played a prominent role during the Get Back sessions in January and the Abbey Road sessions that took place from February through August Fender had already planned to introduce new Telecaster and Stratocaster models constructed of rosewood, and Randall thought that presenting a prototype of the Tele to Harrison and a prototype of the Strat to Jimi Hendrix would help promote the new models. Both were designed and built by Roger Rossmeisl and Philip Kubicki, who made two prototypes of each. The Fender Rosewood Telecaster was not a particularly radical departure from the standard Telecaster design.

Notice anything missing in any of the Beatles stage photos either in New York or Miami? No? How about the guitar amplifiers not a single one anywhere.

Pioneer, Marantz, Sansui and the like were on a power race similar to the Cold War of the same period, releasing receivers with more and more power all the time. Some of the large models went up to and even exceeded watts per channel, yet their smallest offerings had a special, almost delicate sound. Naim Uniti range, compared, reviewed and rated. How the Marshall Amp Changed Rock—and the Meaning of 'Loud'

The session took place in studio 2 from pm. The Beatles first ran through a number of songs, and then recorded four. Prior to the session Brian Epstein assembled a list of song suggestions, the majority of which were never recorded by The Beatles at EMI. It was unusual for a producer to be present for an artist test. However, on this day Martin stayed for most of the session. Smith instructed tape operator Chris Neal to fetch Martin, who took over the rest of the session. Afterwards he invited them to the control room to talk and listen to the playback. Though it was his revolutionary work with The Beatles that he was best known for, pretty much writing the template for modern recording. The B side to Paperback Writer was one of the first examples of The Beatles trying to pursue the idea of psychedelia. A lot of these techniques would be further explored on later Beatles recordings but Rain showcased the band at an early stage of some of their studio innovations. The opening track from Revolver would have been met with very different ears in than it does 50 years later. The Beatles use of the stereo picture may be the most influential of all their use of the studio and Taxman is a pretty perfect example of it.
