Bass Horn Speaker. Even at high output levels, the distortion from this horn is undetectable, and the result is a quickness and definition that you can only get with a horn design. The project to design the Shearer Horn had its roots in Limited Time Sale Easy Return. The Fostex FEEn driver datasheet also include a recommended enclosure plan for a suitable bass-reflex type enclosure which is far easier to construct.

This I understand…. I have some Edgar Horn tractrix midrange boxes that should work from Hz to around 5kHz with dynaudio D54 dome drivers. They pop up on ebay from time to time. Are you crossing digitally? That might allow a smaller horn, say a Hz for Hz XO as you can go steeper. If analogue then you want a Hz horn or so.

My life choices always make things more difficult for me. To be fair compression drivers usually have very hard diaphragms, they have to achieve high pressure after all.

Metal is pretty standard! But why not borrow them and get something running? Would allow you to get on with the crossover and the like, then you can pounce when the right horns come up. I have some extremely steep passive crossovers from Al Klappenberger. No problem with your choices, but I cant find anything suggesting they are made of silk. The data sheets describe them as 54mm doped fabric. G-Point no longer bring in the Autotech horns, you have to buy direct from Poland.

Not sure they are as sturdy or as well made but about half the price of Autotech. Give me a shout and you can come over and have a listen. What has happened to Stereo Lab? Their web domain is for sale. Thanks for the offer. This is the one I was trying to find. Fair enough, I liked them because the HF breakup is very well controlled.

If you want to try them out I do have a pair of D54 AF drivers. Also, I have the crossover sorted. I have the AF version, not sure if they are V1 or V2 tbh and the horns look like this: I am fine with you loaning them as a stop gap if you have other longer term plans.

I make SET amps from 3 - 16 watts and each one has its own characteristics. In some ways, the idea of lower power is better not because of the first watt thing but because of the complexity of design. A 3-watt amplifier may sound much better than a watt amplifier because of the latter's complexity. But due to items 2 and 3, micro power may not be a possible choice for you. I characterize room size as follows:. Medium and large rooms really depend a lot more on issue 3. Rock, Pop, Chamber, Folk and Jazz really do not require much power to recreate. Large orchestral and opera can at times tax a single-ended amplifier or any amplifier for that matter. The sheer amount of complex interactions between the performers really requires either more power or more efficient speakers. This of course also depends on how loud you listen.

Not bad for a specialist audio import, eh? Aside from deviations such as the teensy Zingalis, most horns tend toward the biggish. And small the BS1 is, though its exceptional depth-to-width ratio makes it hard to find suitable stands. Veteran designer Stephan Stamm fitted the BS1 with Loth-X-manufactured drivers consisting of a crossoverless 6in paper cone woofer and a 1in cloth diaphragm, fluid-cooled tweeter. The woofer runs full range, with the tweeter coming it at 10kHz, with only a single polypropylene capacitor running in series with it. This minimalism should, in theory, produce a sound damned close to a full-range driver as regards transparency.
