Exposure 15 integrated amplifier

Way back in the day when Exposure were the only real competitor that Naim had in the UK, both companies made a lot of half width black boxes. They were all ugly and, in the case of Naim, strangely connected little things that sounded very entertaining while not appearing to be too bothered about neutrality and bandwidth. Since that time both brands have changed ownership but Exposure has retained its manufacturing, test, and assembly facilities in West Sussex… not far from its original base near Brighton. Otherwise there is a single line input and an AV input. The casework is not as fancy as some, but pretty tidy with a brushed aluminium front panel that sports buttons for scrolling through the inputs and a motorised volume pot. The remote handset is very much off the shelf and fully buttoned up, but volume is picked out in green which helps; it also has individual input selectors.

Setup guides and Vinyl FAQ. I've owned two different Exposure XV integrated amplifiers, having purchased the first in Phono playback with the integrated is its strong point. It has a powerful exciting presentation and always serves the music - natural and involving.

Comparisons were made at the original purchase time with Naim, Creek and Arcam units - the Naim was close but the Exposure sounded better at the frequency extremes and was more powerful sounding. Being a small integrated it was easy to carry it around to shops and I was able to try it on several speakers including the Wilson Witts.

Though it could not drive the Eminent Technology 2s 82 db it was able to make music with the PSB Stratus Golds 87 db within reasonable limits. I also compared this unit to much more powerful and expensive electronic made by Adcom and Parasound - though the Exposure could not reach the same volume levels, it could play loud and sounded much more natural and musical at any reasonable level. The double the price Adcom and Parasound gear sounds pure midfi in comparison.

I have recently upgraded to the Exposure 4 and 21 combination, costing almost 4 times as much - a much more refined and powerful sound but only a tad bit more musical satisfaction.

Any improvement over the 15 has to come at a great cost - its that good. Recommended mainly for those desiring entry level high end especially with a phono section. The more recent Exposure units have higher power ratings - but 35 watts was really never an issue with speakers with 88db efficiency or higher even in large rooms. Some may not like the banana type speaker connectors, I thought they simplified setup. Kimber Kable.

Other features include biwireable speaker terminals, a preamp output and a headphone socket. On the AV input, there is a choice of fixed or variable gain, allowing configuration as a regular stereo input or a fixed gain home-cinema input. Input switching and volume tracking of the PCB have been further optimised for less crosstalk. The amp has high quality capacitors in the signal path, uniquely tuned short signal and power supply path PCB, Cascode circuitry for improved power supply immunity, fast bipolar transistor output stage for dynamic and vivid performance, all-aluminium casework and extruded front panel to control resonance and stray electromagnetic fields, and a newly-designed remote control.

It has been a dream to work with.

Need some help fixing my amplifier Exposure XV. Ok ive had this Exposure XV amplifier for almost 11 years now, and I love it, it sound great and kinda has some sentimental value as it was the first true high end component that I owned. For those not familiar with Exposure, they are a smallish British hifi brand that hand makes most of thier equipment. They are popular with the Naim and Linn "flat earth" crowd. IMO with the right speakers trhey are the best youll get for rock music.

In one sense, Exposure's latest integrated amplifier, the XX, is a sensational product: it doesn't play records! You'll look in vain on the back for sockets labelled 'phono', finding only 'CD' and three other line stage inputs instead. And this from a company that, along with Linn and Naim, many believed would fight the good fight for vinyl until the bitter, grizzly end. I don't know. What with the afor-mentioned pillars of British hi-fi now making CD players, and Exposure a CD-only amp, it's enough to make any self-respecting analogue addict choke on his Scotch Porridge Oats. But in another sense, the XX is exactly the kind of realistic, pragmatic product a small, specialist amplifier maker should be turning out in these cash-starved times: realistic because it acknowledges that not everyone wants vinyl as a main source, pragmatic because it makes good use of existing hardware. When you consider what a good amp the XV is - large regulated and smoothed-power supply, separate windings on the transformer for the preamp stage, high quality printed circuit boards throughout, and an honest 35 watts per channel output - it's hard not to be impressed by what the XX offers for the money, slightly less attractive facia not withstanding.

The average rating for this product is 5. User Reviews. I was looking for a new amp to inject a bit of life into my system as my previous amp, a Musical Fidelity E10 was a bit lacking in dynamics for some of my heavier CD's.

Rega's Elex-R is a quite remarkable amplifier. To appreciate just how remarkable, consider this: it first won a What Hi-Fi? That little Rega sounded really nice though - don't know how it compares to the big brother Elex. Rega io Integrated Amplifier. The all new io amplifier is designed with every music lover in mind.
