Setting it up is not straightforward and the interface needs modernisation, although once you get to understand the amps peculiarities it all makes sense. Also, this was my third amp with my current speakers in my lounge. When listening to stereo my speakers were bass heavy and boomy.
I had never experienced that with either of my previous amps. You can adjust the EQ in the settings however I found this irritating and it should not be necessary to have to do this. Dirac may help with that, but you will need to buy a proper microphone and stand to do the measurements, as the supplied one is poor quality.
The lack built-in streaming doesn't help. The built in DAC is good, so if you are connecting a streaming device make sure you use the optical to take advantage of the Arcam's DAC and not the streamers built in DAC, which is probably inferior.
Ultimately, this amp may please some, and it may be perfect for some, but for me it was a product that could have been amazing, but just wasn't quite there. It is a lot of amp for the current retail price, but it will not suit everyone. It is a shame Arcam and other manufacturers did not persevere with the 5. The button below says would I recommend. This amp is like Marmite, you will either love it or loath it, but the only way to know is try it for yourself.

Brilliant for movies as well. Build quality is great, sound quality with the installed Dirac live is exceptional. Also I got it for a great price!
